Thanks. It's amazing how many who would otherwise oppose such an issue are suddenly willing to accept it simply because a Republican president proposed it.

It's wrong...regardless whether it came from the left or right.

>>>I oppose amnesty...

All in all, it was a good speech. Except for the part about his immigration reform proposals. The President can't redefine what the word amnesty means just to fit the desires of his proposals. That's ridiculous.

Offering legal status to illegal aliens is a grant of pardon and in effect, that is amnesty.

"It would be a shame if his liver failed soon."

HA...I wondered tonight what would happen if he had a heart attack during the SOTU. (I'm sorry, God....I guess I have something I need to learn from Senator Kennedy....LIKE....HOW TO IGNORE SOMEONE?)

Texasforever .... I don't know what's going on with him. Props to you on your travails having to train a ChiCom HB1 to take your job. There is pain out there for well educated Americans who have done all the right things, and I don't like it. I don't like foreigners horning in on their jobs right here on American soil.

This is America, not some job fair for foreigners which is the sham GWBush has been talking up.

Bush threw back that infamous homophobe Bill Clinton who signed the Defense of Marraige Act in 1996. I didn't even know he did this.

Yep, as I remembered, this is the act he signed in the middle of the night. I'd forgotten until President Bush reminded us tonight that Clinton had signed it and then my memory was triggered. I did a quick Google and found this reference, and I'm sure there are plenty more:

The Holy War on Gays

EXCERPT:

Designed as a response to the consideration of gay marriages by Hawaiian courts, DOMA was an effort to prevent the legal authority of such unions from spreading to the continental United States; it also precludes same-sex couples from receiving federal spousal benefits. The bill sailed through Congress, spearheaded by Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga., ironically twice divorced, thrice married himself. And, with apparent reluctance, President Bill Clinton went along. “The president signed it in the middle of the night, in the wee hours”, says Knight. “And only after [then-White house spokesman Mike] McCurry called it a hate-driven bill.” Since 1996, twenty-eight states have passed parallel legislation, ensuring that they would not have to recognize gay marriages approved by any other state.

While nobody was looking CNN just played the winning MoveOn.org video ad at the end of the extended Larry King Show.

They like taxes, tax hikes, new revenue streams, new fees, etc.

Like the Democrats in PA. The governor (Ed Rendell) just raised our state income tax. Pittsburgh mayor (Tom Murphy) just raised parking tax 50 % and wants to raise occupation tax by 500 % plus hit commuters with an income tax, and on and on.

When you elect Dems, you elect for your taxes to go UP.

Are you going to stay home or vote for someone else?

I would never vote for a RAT or for Bush. Maybe 3rd Party, or just stay home.

Poor attempt at Monica humor on my part.

I'm all for securing the border (and think that P-3C Orions would be a great asset there) but whether I agree 100% with Bush on this one I've learned my lesson from 92 and, particularly as a Floridian, from 2000. I keep considering the alternative...

Maybe I'm supposed to recognize the 2 black guys?

I believe that is Je$$e Jackass Jr with the child, and John Louis looking like he wants to eat her lollypop.

Do you know who the child is?

Not really, but my bet is it's a blind date for Mel Reynolds

If memory serves, I remember hearing somewhere that CNN or some network was going to show the moveon.org ad after the SOTU address. I completely forgot until you mentioned it.

Thanks my friend ... I actually plan to vote for "W" cause the alternative is unacceptable ... but I'm not happy about Patriot act 2, or the guest worker program, or the open borders ...

on the job front ... I'm interviewing with Sun Microsystems next week ... all prayers and good wishes are greatly appreciated
