***The Courage Of George W. Bush***
Stardate: 0401.17

Posted on 01/17/2004 8:02:01 PM PST by The Wizard

As I listen to the jabberings of the misc. democrats who are attacking the President, those who were in the services, et al, I always remember one sight I will never forget the rest of my life......

A few days after 9-11 when no one knew what was happening and who was behind it, and no one was really sure if it was over, I watched George Bush, all alone, walk out to the mound at Yankee Stadium, in front of 55 thousand people and as clean a target as ever existed, show the world that America, (at least this American) wasn't going to be intimidated.....and there, all alone, no SS, no NYPD, nothing, he threw out that first ball.......

You could hear America stop breathing until he was off the field.......

That took more guts than anything any of these pathetic weasels ever did in their lives.......

I will never forget that.....ever......

Therefore God exalted Him (Jesus) to the highest place, and gave Him the NAME that is above every NAME, that at the NAME of JESUS every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father..... Philippians 2: 9, 11

The answer to your question is, YES, the name of Jesus is sacred.

"Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain."

This is the Second Commandment, and it includes not only swearing and blasphemy, but failure to honor the Name of God as sacred.

I've come to the conclusion that some are not.

I don't recall who first said it, but someone very perceptively said that the real dividing line in politics today is those who still live in a pre-9/11 world vs. those who live in a post-9/11 world. I just hope with all my heart that there are enough post-9/11 folks out there to re-elect President Bush. Otherwise we are all going to be in a world of hurt.

Heck, many of the haters who claim to be on the Right politically don't even know what they're talking about. For example, while it's true that the Medicare bill included the prescripton drugs provision, it also included some very conservative ideas: Medical savings accounts, the ability for seniors to choose from different plans other than traditional Medicare, and so on. This is true of a number of the initiatives the complainers cite in their mantras. This is why I think many, if not most of the ones we're encountering lately on FR (if not Dem disrupters in "disguise") are the perpetually angry types who voted for Perot, Buchanan, Keyes, etc., throughout the 1990's.

Anyway, I've copied Southack's list to Word and have begun organizing it. I'm also going to do some research on WhiteHouse.gov to see if I can add some more items. Might take me a couple of days, but I'll email it to you ASAP.

So, again, all those millions of men named Jesus in latin america, all those imperfect vessels who have been labelled with the name of The Most Perfect, are not, in and of themselves, living, breathing, walking examples of defaming the Name of the Divine?

You see, I trust, the difficulty of the proposition that a name, a spoken or written word, could be considered 'sacred', as that word itself is but an imperfect substitute for that which is attempting to be described in using it and is not the thing to which it is applied or which it is intended to indicate.

People in Latin America choose the name "Jesus" because they are HOMORING The Master. This is not defining the Name of Jesus.

They just don't get it....

Really?

That would give one pause for wonder, if that were the case, of exactly how honor is bestowed upon the The Ineffable, The Perfect, by affording to fallen creatures its own name, which is apparently sacred.

Look, we're getting waaaaay off-base here, and this is likely a more appropriate topic for another thread. Consider, for a moment, why one doesn't see little Yahweh's or Jehovah's running around.

Pahuanui: You may not realize it, but your stiff, awkward prickliness, pomposity and smug self-righteousness while imparting such obvious info is really quite hilarious. Also more than a touch stuffy — so much so that, after choking with laughter at your post #140, I had to get up and open a window. Let a little fresh California sunshine into my PC room. Yer trying just a touch too hard to convince us, ya know.

Are you saying that the people of Latin America choose the name of "Jesus" in order to defile it? That is your only other choice, you know.

Are you anti-Hispanic? Do you not realize there is a long tradition of using this name, as well as Maria (Mary) to honor both the son and the Immaculate Conception? Where in the world do you get the idea that people from a devoutly Catholic country would dishonor the Name of the Saviour?

Trying a touch too hard to impress us with his intelligence, too, IMO......

But what he doesn't seem to understand is that knowledge and wisdom are not one and the same.........

(You laughed at that post too, Wolfstar? I'm glad I'm not the only one......)

Not in the least, and that is not the only other choice. This is not an either/or scenario.

Are you anti-Hispanic?

Far from it.

Do you not realize there is a long tradition of using this name, as well as Maria (Mary) to honor both the son and the Immaculate Conception? Where in the world do you get the idea that people from a devoutly Catholic country would dishonor the Name of the Saviour?

That isn't my idea or even my suggestion.

PS: The windbag obviously doesn't know to whom he/she is posting — telling you, of all people, the difference between SS security of the president and security for a soldier in the field. Sheesh!

Hijacking a thread is poor forum etiquette, and it is not nice.

The Wizard put up this thread to remember, with great fondness, and admiration, the courage of President Bush on that Oct night. Those of us who agree with Wizard's premise chose to click on the thread, and comment (in a mostly positive manner), and put up pictures for all to enjoy.

It wasn't really necessary to bring your security expertise to this thread. For all you have said, we know this was a courageous moment in GW's presidency.

Please, let it go. There is nothing more annoying, than to have a party pooper on a positive and uplifting thread - especially since these types of threads have been so few and far between lately.

Very well, I both withdraw and apologize for any contention that my comments engendered.

The "Patsies" and the "Keyesters," as someone once creatively called them. They represent less than 1% of the electorate, but are disportionantely present on FR.

Looking forward to the edited "Accomplishments" list.

...knowledge and wisdom...

Well, he/she seems to have neither — at least not knowledge of people. Imagine! We needed this windbag to tell us the difference between presidential security and that of a soldier in the field. We needed him/her to tell us that Yankee Stadium was as safe as it was humanly possible to make it that night. As for wisdom, he/she seems incapable of understanding that there are a number of different kinds of courage. The fact that the President's physical safety was ensured to the fullest extent possible that night in no way diminishes the courage he displayed.

Yes, I suppose there IS a bit of irony in his/her 'explaining' to me what it means to be a soldier. :o)

And as you said, it has NOTHING to do with the courage it took for our President to stride out to that mound and throw that pitch.

He had the prayers of MILLIONS behind him..........millions who UNDERSTOOD what it meant to do what he did, and the BOLD faith our President showed the world that night.

And NO September 10th, missing-the-boat freeper will EVER take away that moment in American history.

It was, indeed MAGNIFICENT!
