Joining in the party for the good news. WooHOOOOO. I guess our W had enough. I know he says he is a patient man, but hey, the Chuckster wasn't going to let up.

Fox is not the only station to pant in anticipation of the MJ hearing. They were all there. At one point around 3pm, Shep was reporting news, and MSNBC (via helicopter) was following the black SUV back to Neverland with "security" riding on the running boards, ala Secret Service. LOL, I was having flashbacks to the "Bianco Bronco" run for the money.

You're right. I should be eternally glad for Fox giving Harris' announcement minimal coverage. It was too much to hope that they'd get it right.

Look, I apologize for letting my irritation with all the carping about the President I've seen on FR lately get the better of me today. But here's the full text of your post which drew my cranky response:

He and Rove figured there'd be quite an outrage over the amnesty deal so they made up a list of actions that could quiet the base down or at least get the story off the front page. Going to the moon for one. 1.5 Billion for "helping marriages" for another. And now the money shot - recess appointing a judge. As I said before, smart politics.

You wrote in the declarative, not in a hypothetical manner — not what you think may have motivated the President to do this recess appointment, but what actually did. Accordingly to your declarative statement, it was all about politics. Nothing more.

To be fair to you, I've seen much, much worse posted over the last several days. But I am still so tired of the type of cynicism and, yes, sanctimony in such posts that I lost patience when I came across yours today.

Don't be too understanding. It was an obvious attempt to introduce the "amnesty bs" - an exceedingly contentious and overrought issue that has suffocated this forum in divisiveness this past week - into an unrelated, postitive thread. There was nothing innocent about it.

That determination is waaaaaaay above my pay grade. :)
It's an interesting question and I just happened to know where to locate the relevant statute, in a timely fashion, from previous research.

"You're right. I should be eternally glad for Fox giving Harris' announcement minimal coverage. It was too much to hope that they'd get it right."

Sarcasm is not your forte is it? So tell me what did you think of the coverage CNN and MSNBC gave to Katherine Harris's announcement?!?!?!

I'm sure they'll cover that story later on in the week when they've got their liberal talking heads lined up to take snipes at her unchallenged. But I guess what makes them so much better than Fox. . .

a recess appointment is temporary

It's not a lifetime position so it'd only last the Prez's term? Is that right?

I thought Clinton did all his wreckage while Congo was away.

"Well, well, well....I think Fox will announce it as soon as their MJ coverage is completed. That should be around Tuesday."

This syndrome of having to be "the first", to "scoop" the competition, is a holdover from the 30's, 40's, and some of the 50's...and relates mainly to newspapers.

In this day of digital electronics, coupled with a vast majority of left-leaning media...especially CNN (clinton News Network), all being first means it, they told the lie first.

This preoccupation with being "first" - akin to the male preoccupation with "size" - amounts only to a pissing contest between media outlets. And "inside joke", if you will.

Consider - most of the news happens during the working day, while most of us are at work. Very few businesses have a TV playing all day long, so the first ANY OF US hear about it is when we are driving home, or after we arrive home. THEN...we turn on the channel of our choice/preference anyway, so...if I prefer FOX news, and it's the "first" place I hear about something...then, to me, "FOX was first".

It's not a horse race...even though there are some "horse's asses" on CNN...their spin is unbearable.

I think that about describes the difference between liberals and conservatives...liberals think "FIRST", Conservative think "ACCURACY".

For instance, I vividly remember WHERE I was when I heard about Kennedy being shot...but I don't have a clue as to what station it was on. But I do remember the news persons on the TV that night, after I arrived home...but they were NOT the FIRST.

Regarding CNN...sometimes being "FIRST" just amounts to "premature ejaculation".

Well stated, Darlin'. Thanks for putting into words what I have stumbled with today. Normally a pretty patient type, I just hit a wall and lost patience with all the naysaying that's been posted on FR lately about the President. Of course FR is for discussion, and of course we all have a right to question and disagree with policy proposals. But I've just had it up to here with those who say they'll never vote for him again, or he's not a "real" conservative, or worse.

I live in the Los Angeles area, so I'm personally impacted by illegal immigration. No one wants it stopped more than I. But I can disagree with President Bush's policy proposal and still never forget his magnificent leadership in the aftermath of 9/11 and the anthrax attacks.

I haven't forgotten that was one of the darkest periods in American history. This nation was shaken to its core in a way we had not been probably since the Civil War. But we had one shining, poised, genuine beam of light guiding us out of the dark. That beam of light was named George W. Bush. His tears were our tears; his anger, our anger; his resolve, our resolve. He lifted us up then. So I have no intention of abandoning him now, no matter what policy difference I might have with him. I am not ashamed to say I love this President.

Thanks. I appreciate your post. Actually, it wasn't so much that I was trying to be understanding as that I was trying to rein in my mounting irritation with such nonsense.

Well then, they should be celebrating over there, shouldn't they? heh heh.
