you nailed it on the pro-life issue. Every judge they oppose is because they are pro-life. They act like it's for other reasons, but ask yourself, is any judge they oppose pro-choice?
Oh, there is that small matter about lots of Mississippi blacks SUPPORTING Pickering, and the fact that he testified AGAINST the KKK. Let's hear the rants from Hillary, Dean, Kennedy et all!

..... "You are aware that he IS a politican btw?" I am aware of a handful of disgruntled posters using every excuse to bash President Bush because he doesn't follow the timetable and agenda they have decided he must adhere to. I'm aware that some folks are so miserable that they assign nefarious motives to any action the president takes that doesn't address the issue they believe is best for the country.
This appointment is good news and it is unfortunate that you are unable to accept it at face value. The country got a fine new Judge and the leftist, liberal democrats got a public spanking. That makes me happy.

It's a boondoogle man! Don't you know. Anything that Bush does that doesn't adhere to the strictest of certain self-absorbed conservatives beliefs of "their way is the only true conservative way." Is automatically circumspect of being a act of RINOcity or boodglery. ;^)

Intriguing.......but how about a hint at least?

I'm sorry you denote anyone attempting to take a deeper look at Bush's action as being tantamont to a personal attack against the man. Furthermore its wrong of YOU to impunge the motives of others when they ask such legitimate questions. If a poster says Bush is evil and he only did this to win points with Satan, then you have a good point. But getting upset when someone takes a look at his "strategery" is being too sensitive.

I'm not quite sure what you two are complaining about. Foxnews had Katherine Harris on speaking about her possible Senate run this morning while the other two crap cablenews channels were covering MJ.
Also when Fox did finally report on MJ they did the best and fairest job of it. Instead of acting like awed little stcophants as CNN, and MSNBC did.

I don't know you at all. And I'm tired of seeing this great president torn down by the self-professed "real" conservatives on this forum. If that was not your intent, then I apologise to you.

Every judge they oppose is because they are pro-life. Just wanted to repeat it for emphasis. All the Democrats now stand for and have to offer the nation are appeasement in the face of terrorism, perverse sexual unions, and the killing of the unborn.

I read that to say that if his nomination is still pending at the end of this session (which it will be), he'll be paid unless he was a previous recess appointment.
That is a limitation on the power of the President to skip the advice and consent requirement for the Senate by using recess appointments exclusively.
So, he'll get paid for this year, but if Bush has to use the same trick next January, Pickering would be working for free.
To: sciencediet
The next election is right around the corner.
I'm glad to see Pickering appointed as it sends a message, but a recess appointment is temporary. It can be used as a tool, but I doubt that, say, Judge Brown would want to walk away from her secure position on the Calif. Supreme Court for a one-year gig.

Sure FR is a place for discussion. It's not the discussion that has been getting to me lately, it's the sanctimony.

I think this exception could apply
if, at the end of the session, a nomination for the office, other than the nomination of an individual appointed during the preceding recess of the Senate, was pending before the Senate for its advice and consent; or
