"It's smart politics, but it's not for "holding the conservative base" because of the amnesty proposition.
It's to influence the outcome of the caucus vote on Monday."
ASTUTE OBSERVATION -- my thoughts exactly!

And I am tired of explaining the political angle of this. It isn't just about the immigration bill. Geeez, can't some of these folks think for themselves.

Nice. Give me the HTML so I can cut and paste it quickly and I will. (Sorry, I'm not that HTML savvy and too lazy to figure it out.)

LOL
I'm not just saying that, I really did laugh out loud.

Oh, for Heavens sake, give it a rest. This is wonderful news but you choose to be cynical about it. Do you honestly think Judge Pickering, father of Congressman Pickering, would allow anyone to play politics with his good name or his long, distingushed career ? The President gave the Dems on the Senate Judicary committee every chance to do the right thing. They didn't so he played the hand they dealt him.

"Where are all the Freepers who complain that Bush was too RINO-y to push for his own nominees?"I'm one of them, and happy as hell to admit I was wrong.
The amnesty proposal still sucks, though. I hope I'm just as wrong on that one, too.

I was thinking about that this morning....and I think I'm going to stop going on those threads, period. They're not interested in our views; they have their agenda and we're not going to change their minds. I'm talking about the ones who have been looking for something to bash Bush with forever......the Bush Haters.
It's a waste of our time. We have bigger fish to fry.

President Bush has just GOTTEN CONTROL of the POLITICAL NEWS. Whoever wins Iowa will be small potatoes compared to this act + Katherine Harris' announcement + Bremer in DC + Hussein pix release etc.etc.etc.
To: michigander
I was not aware of that law. I'm not sure it's constitutional, but it's certainly been on the books for a long time.
According to that, Pickering will not get paid, at least until he's confirmed.

Felt like dedicating this thread to the naysayers on here! Love it -- right before the Iowa caucus so Kerry and Edwards can get even more mad and on MLK weekend. Maybe those folks should not have boo'd the President yesterday.

"It's to influence the outcome of the caucus vote on Monday."
To what purpose? Increasing the angry-Dem turnout for Dean, to give Bush the weakest opponent?

At least you don't have to try and delete old posts where you called him every name in the book! Although I will say I've never gone so far as to say I'll vote Dem or Constitution Party!
I want to see a big old can of whoopa' opened up on the libs. Bush has taken their crap for too long. Time to put 'em in their place and this seems like the start of it!

It's to influence the outcome of the caucus vote on Monday.Man, if you are right (and I think you are) then this is downright Machiavellian! Energize the opposition's most radical element so that they choose the candidate who is easiest to beat. I love it!
