Because they had no opportunity to do so? I personally know of a minister who was a sex offender in my home town who was caught by a local cop in a whorehouse. All his congregation wqas told about his sudden departure was that a larger church in another town had given him a call. The real story came out later, but was fervently denied by his many "fans" in the congregation.
