W's Legacy: A List of the President's Conservative Actions

It is my firm belief that our current President, George W. Bush, has been a much more conservative president than any of us ever dreamed when we elected him in 2000. These days, many people seem to labor under the impression that he is not, and point to one or two actions that they think are irredeemable. They then go on to loudly proclaim that 1) W is a liberal in elephant's clothing and 2) they will not vote for him in 2004.

I can see where these folks are coming from, but I think that they are not seeing the whole picture. We need to show these people, who mostly good folks who are still on the side of freedom, how great a president W has been. If you know of something he has done while in office to further the cause of conservatism, read the list and if it is not already listed, put it there.

In this way we can help our fellow FReepers get a better grasp of what sort of president we really have!

1) Went to Mexico City and told the UN where they could shove the Tobin Tax.

2) Tax Cuts!

3) Increased military spending

4) Liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq

5) Improving quality of intelligence agencies

6) Sound fiscal policies that averted a steep recession

7) Cutting off the murderous regime in North Korea from additional freebies

8) Discarding the foolish ABM treaty with the former Soviet Union

9) Devotion to faith

10) Removal of signature from the Kyoto treaty

Judges

He has nominated some outstanding conservative judges. If the Senate would get some they would be confirmed.

I've heard too many conservatives say they are going to vote for a Dim to "teach a lesson". What a horrible mistake. One word says it all - JUDGES. We have too many 9th circuses!

No joke. Would they be able to live with themselves when Dean gets to appoint two 9th circuit judges to the Supreme Court? Actions (and inaction) have consequences!

I agree totally about the judges--but I'd sure like for the president to make it one of his top priorities and push, push, push for his nominees.

Three of your points are not even necessarily conservative and some of the others are debatable. But it really doesn't matter at this point. Most of the people criticizing Bush from the Right act shocked and surprised at some of his liberal actions and compromises and now say they won't vote for him because he "betrayed" them. Not really. Bush was extremely vague in his "promises". I had nothing but the lowest expectations of Bush. I wanted only two things from Bush. The first he delivered on when he assumed office- he is not Bill Clinton. The second is that he hold to his word on nominating strict constructionists on the Thomas/Scalia model to the Supreme Court and Appellate Courts. I expect nothing more from him than that.

Now the argument can be made that Bush's record thus far would indicate he might go wishy washy on even nominating non Left wing judges. Yes- that is a possibility.

But what is a certainity- is that any Democrat elected to the White House will nominate Radical judges with no regard for rule of law- just raw political results.

There really is no choice but to vote vor Bush come this November.

Exactly, even those conservatives that have become disillusioned with Bush lately must realize that two maybe even three justices from the USSC will alomost definitely step down in the next 4 years.

The balance of power in that court could be stacked against us for 20-30 years if Bush looses, and we may just loose the culture wars.

Interestingly, the real test of Bush 43 in regards to conservatism has yet to come. Yes Bush has proved he loves his country and is a good leader in his response to 9/11.

However, he has not had a chance to nominate a SC justice yet. His father gave us Thomas (good) and Souter (terrible), and was, honestly, no conservative.

If Bush appoints a couple of conservative justices then anything else is gravy. I believe he will based on his lower level choices.

Liberals continue to control America, even though they are a minority, from the benches, and for that reason alone no one of good conscience can vote for a Democrat for any reason (let alone their willingness to let the Islamists win).

Of course, I should point out that if Bush does not nominate conservatives/strict constructionists to the SC when he wins his second term (and he will), the Republicans will face the consequences in 2008...

That is fine with me. I don't care one whit if the GOP suffers defeat in 2008 as long as the USSC and the Appellates are safely in strict constructionist hands. 90 percent of the liberal agenda was mandated by left wing tyrants in robes and was never popular.

I wonder if those of you angry with the president would have preffered someone with their finger in the wind, following instead of leading? We act as if Bush is only President of the Right, instead of the country, and he dare not disagree with us. I get along better with Bush than I do most people. Bush is not our Mother, he does not have to take care of our needs all the time. Expecting him to tow the line, is asking him to follow, not lead. Bush is a leader.

Signed 2 income tax cuts ---- 1 of which was the largest Dollar value tax cut in world history

Reduced taxes on dividends and capital gains

In process of eliminating IRS marriage penalty.

Increased small business incentives to expand and to hire new people

Signed into law the No Child Left Behind legislation delivering the most dramatic education reforms in a generation (challenging the soft bigotry of low expectations)

Reorganized the INS in an attempt to safeguard the borders and ports of America and to eliminate bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability.

Signed trade promotion authority

Committed US funds to purchase medicine for millions of men and women and children now suffering with AIDS in Africa

Passed Medicare Reform (authorized $39.5 Billion per year for preventive medicine such as drugs and doctor visits as well as included a ten year Privatization option)

Urging federal liability reform to eliminate frivolous lawsuits

Supports class action reform bill which limits lawyer fees so that more settlement money goes to victims

Submitted comprehensive Energy Plan--awaits Congressional action (works to develop cleaner technology, produce more natural gas here at home, make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy, improve national grid, etc.)

Endorses and promotes The Responsibility Era ("In a compassionate society, people respect one another and take responsibility for the decisions they make in life. Significantly eased field-testing controls of genetically engineered crops.

President Bush signed the workplace verification bill to prevent hiring of illegal Aliens
S. 1685, the Basic Pilot Extension Act of 2003, was signed by President Bush on December 3, 2003.
It extends for five years the workplace employment eligibility authorization pilot programs created in 1996. It expands the pilot programs from the original five states to all 50 states.
