To: I still care
There are some in Hollywood so repugnant that yes, their presence alone would keep me away from the film. Streisand is one (then again, the kind of movie she'd be in probably isn't the kind I'd want to see anyways).

But no one in the LOTR trilogy fits anywhere near that description.

In fact, with a few exceptions, I don't recall having ever seen any other films with those actors in them. The exceptions being:

Sean Astin: Saw him last in "The Goonies" and "Encino Man".

John Rhys-Davies: Saw him in the Indiana Jones (I and III) films, and in "The Great White Hype". Don't recall offhand, but there may have been another...

Christopher Lee: "1941", and any number of horror films.

Liv Tyler: Have seen (and will see) her in anything.

All the other actors I have never seen on the screen before.

And you know, even if they do turn around and put the $10 I gave them every time I went to see the movies to ANSWER or the DNC or some other rabble of Reds, so what? I give way more than that in time and money to Republican candidates and conservative causes dear to me that it all balances out quite well.

Viggo was good as Moses Hochleitner in Witness and was decent in Perfect Murder with Michael Douglas and Gweneth Paltrow. His paintings have received some good reviews over the years, but it's not my style. I enjoyed him as the reluctant hero.

I enjoyed Sean Astin in Rudy, Goonies, and Memphis Belle.

John Rhys-Davies: I liked him the IJ movies and The Living Daylights and on tv in Shogun, Nobel House, & Sliders.

Sean Bean (Boromir) also was in a Bond Movie (Goldeneye) and I also enjoyed him in Ronin, The Essex Boys, and Patriot Games.

I agree about Liv Tyler and grew up on Christopher Lee.

However, Cate Blanchett is my favorite star from these movies. She is a terrific actress and deserved to win the Oscar for Elizabeth instead of Gweneth Paltrow.

You may have seen Elijah Wood before. He played in parts as a child actor. Was in The Good Son with Macaulay (sp?) Culkin. Read he was also in Forever Young with Mel Gibson. I was only curious to find out because I was looking at the Directv guide last night and was surprised to see Elijah Wood's name listed on The Good Son. I saw it ten years ago and remembered to the kid to be cute. Well, now I know what became of him.
