Great fireworks photos of sendoff. My parents are on this cruise, lucky them.

'The most expensive Grand Duplex cabins,..'
I just wonder who could afford this expense and what these people do. Not jealous just curious.

I read long ago that the Queen Mary, in ww2 as a troop ship, had bow decking pealed back "like a sardine can" by a freak wave during a winter crossing; maybe her successor will fare better ! In the 60s I watched the 'Mary leaving Cherbourg for her last transatlantic crossing before going to Long Beach.

I've been wondering what kind of security measures they took to screen passengers, crew, etc.

If the huge, towering ship rides out the storm . . . IF??? Oh, man, the Luddites in the lamestream press are smacking their lips and hoping for the worst. Must be cozy in that bed with the islamists.
Beautiful ship. Wish I could be on her.

My wife and I cruised for two weeks in the '80s on the Cunard Countess. The QM2 could probably use it for a launch.
(BTW, we had a wonderful time, we were the token yanks on a ship full of brits. We got exemplary service to the chagrin of the Brits. We asked why we got the great service and the brits didn't. We were told it was because the Americans know how to tip)

This Art Deco design as it's done in this picture is nothing short of perfection of the genre.

i cannot fully explain why but I have no intention of ever going on a cruise. And I would never go to a Caribbean resort either.
To each his own but my idea of a vacation is to do everything on my own terms. I hate the idea of being locked up or restricted in some scripted fantasy world.
Give me a rental car and let me drive down the TX or FL coast and I am a happy man.

The black-hulled 345-meter (1,139-foot) flagship of Cunard, the upmarket British unit of US cruise line group Carnival ... That's surprising to me. When did Cunard get bought out by Carnival? Cunard has been around since before Titanic (White Star Line) days (the first rescue ship on the scene after Titanic went down was the RMS Carpathia, a Cunarder).
I wonder if Cunard will eventually put the QM2 on their World Tour circuit? Its a 6-month cruise, costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to stay with the ship for the entire voyage. If I ever win the lottery or nail a particularly good stock tip, I'll do that while they build my new house.
I envy your parents a bit - here's hoping they enjoy every minute of their cruise.

..it was constructed and launched last year at Saint Nazaire, on the French Atlantic coast. It was built by the French? And you're letting your folks cross the ocean in it?
