"You seem to think of the french as some type of lower beings that deserved this crash."
They don't deserve to crash tis true, but they are lower beings.

I don't see how they collided on the runway when they disappeared from radar @ +7min.
I don't need more reading.

According to BBC, the crash occured at 0244 GMT, Cairo is +2 hours from GMT. So, it sounds like the flight left at 4:44 AM, (I am assuming that Sharm is at same time as CAI).
So, we have weather in the 50's, early morning, on a point off of the ocean, with fog reported. Could have been a building crash with the plane too low, or a pilot crashing into a hill or mountain, or mechanical. Who knows? Wait till we get more data

Waaaay too early to pin a cause on this flight. Just remember, planes crash, and its always a tradgedy, no matter who is on board.I agree!
Time to call it a night!

A French plane crashes near Paris
(Updated at 1130 PST)
PARIS: Three people were killed when a light aircraft en- route from Tel Aviv crashed near Paris, emergency services said. The privately owned eight-seater came down in a wooded area to the west of the French capital, a foreign news agency reported on Saturday.
They said they were still investigating the cause of the crash and did not release the identity of the three people killed. The plane, which had made a stopover in Greece, exploded on impact, according to witnesses.

A lot of western style activity goes on in Sharm el Sheikh.
With each year the entertainment industry in the Red Sea only gets better. In the main Red Sea cities of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada you can find many ways to be entertained by live music, dancing, shows, casinos, racing, art centers, festivals, museums, shopping and sporting events.
Although nightlife varies from city to city, the major resort cities of Sharm and Hurghada offer a wide array of bars, clubs and restaurants suitable for anyone from the diver to the diva.
In the remainder of the Red Sea cities, the nightlife is more subdued. But, you can usually find at least one hotel bar or disco that has the potential for something interesting. However, nothing beats the entertainment of sitting under the stars, watching the moon with the possibility of an evening swim in the Red Sea.
Right now no one knows the cause of this plane going down... it could be an accident OR it could be terrorism. Does anyone really think that the terrorists care who they kill? (just look at Turkey and Iraq). They hit were they can and when they can.

Having lived right next to Sharm for six months (stationed there), I can't imagine fog having anything to do with this. If they were on final approach, yes, but taking off?? No.
Upon our arrival in Sharm on C-141s, the pilots brought us down in evasive maneuver fashion: Starting at 10,000' AGL, point the nose straight down and do a corkscrew until 1000' AGL. Made all of the officers hurl. After nearly 30 hours of sitting backwards with no windows, it was pretty cool. There was an intel report warning of possible SAM use by terrorists. THAT WAS 15 YEARS AGO!!
Sharm sits on the point of the Sinai, basically. There is an island visible in the distance as well, that the aircraft would possibly have passed over. No boat required for a SAM-7, IMHO. 737-300s are pretty safe - even if you grenade one engine on takeoff a competent pilot can recover. Rudder failure is another story, but the ADs have been out there for how long now?

I would speculate elevator accident like Alaska Air, or bomb, missile terror. IMO,Can't be- our resident expert has already informed us that it was a accident based on- well, based on something or other.
Only a kook would think that terrorism might be the cause of the crash of an airliner in the Middle East

No, I was pointing out that fog is a dangerous thing, I don't believe this was a runway collision, but taking off in less than 1/8 vis is not good. And I doubt that these planes were equipped with CAT III or even CAT II systems.

Don't forget this tidbit:
Local news media reported Saturday that vacationing British Prime Minister Tony Blair was to meet there (The resort) later in the day with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Scenario:
Takeover of cockpit; hijacked airliner, crash into known location of said world leader above.
That didn't happen, obviously.
So that leaves us with the what ifs?

AD on the 737-300 has been out for years, but I'd like to see where these planes used to be. This sounds like a pretty dodgy charter company, who knows what their maint was like? As for fog in Sharm, the temp was cold enough, if the dew point was at the right level you could have fog.
After flying on MS, and seeing how beaten down their fairly new planes were, I wouldn't doubt that a much poorer charter would have worse planes!
To: seamole
CNN just reported that the Air Force had been patrolling in the Red Sea at the time, but it was unclear if they meant our Air Force or Egypt's.

Don't you know, everything short of the extinction of the dinosaur is a direct result of Bush's policy.I think he's been implicated for that too.
