I've been using "Deanie Weenies" to describe Howard Dean fanatics (and I don't think that it is a nice term). One reason I use it is because it is similar to Greenie Weenies and Howard Dean does seem to be a Rat candidate designed to lure Green Party Reds away from third party voting and back in line with the Yellow Dog Democrats.

Methinks that Howard Dean will be a bait and switch for the Democrats come November. Get the wandering Democrats back on the plantation and then run a more viable candidate in the Fall.

Howard Dean IS the Greenie Weenie choice so far.

Wow! I grew up in the south in the same time frame, but never saw even the most prejudiced of my family or neighbors so anything so rude. A lot of folks didn't like blacks and would say so, but they still treated them decently.

My experience from many travels: the North has been more overtly racist than the South. Perhaps this is why Dr Dean, from Vermont, has his opinion.

Happy New Year!

After reading the full text of this post and receiving a rather hate-filled private message from someone calling himself semajjj (who asked me how could I commit such a 'horrific act' of being Black and Republican, and that Black Republicans were the same as 'Black Klansmen'and that we're 'self-loathing'), I need to hose myself off with some strong disinfectant.

As long as there are people like Dean, 'semajjj', and Derrick Jackson around, and sadly, a few who post on this forum, we'll never have decent relations with Whites or any other people. It really gets rather old at times when others assume that Blacks are: 1. All Democrats; 2. Too stupid to think on our own; and 3. Have to continuously be pandered to. Listen up, we're not from another planet, nor are we the Missing Links! Enough already.

-Regards, T.

Clinton was the first black president.

Dean, if elected {guffaw *snock*}, will be the first president "who's best friend is a black guy - no, really".

We can at least take some small steps, though. Just because there are still some losers around doesn't mean giving up the fight; Trueblackman posted a really teriffic op-ed on what we as B/Cs ought to do. That should at least offer some encouragement.

Is it something else? Maybe a rejection of the value of hard work and being accountable?

Like I said, this was shocking to me. I grew up lower middle class and our parents were very ambitious for us. They didn't demand college, but by damn, you were going to have skills and be a responsible person. Through my adulthood, I have NEVER met a parent who hasn't had a desire to see their children achieve and encouraged it.

I have worked for a few years in health care and people lose accountability quickly and replace it with entitlement. The entitlement is provided by the legal and legislative systems. When one works around the poor-entitled enough one sees plenty of parents who do not care for their children in any way that resembles middle class nurturing. But also remember that the poor are a middle class entitlement.
