I thought I'd post this just because it's interesting to learn about what the Democrat establishment is thinking.

Prior to joining FNC, Colgan was a Democratic fundraising and political consultant, and campaign manager for both David Wecht for Pennsylvania's superior court and Catherine Baker Knoll for state treasurer.

Well, while I think this article is bunk - as Cheney is definately going to be on the ticket, one thing I can tell you for sure is that should tragic strike, Guliani would not be the replacement.

First, he's pro-choice. For moral reasons, Bush would not set things up for a pro-choicer to be his replacement.

Also, as gay marriage is set to be a major campaign issue, it is absurd to think Bush would run with a guy that went to live with a couplda limp-wristers, post-divorce.

Are you really that ignorant to the factional make-up of the GOP?

If so, I'd love to see Condi as VP.

Would the Democrats call her a race traitor, a sellout? ...or just leave that to the Elite Media, NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus and Jessie Jackson?

I don't care who is president, as long as the policies are in order. Good grief, what is wrong with you????

There are still a lot of people who won't vote for blacks, or other ethnic minorities. Or women. It's the truth. It was only 40 years ago that the Civil Rights movement was in full gear -- the 60- and 70- and 80-year olds who make up a large percentage of today's voters grew up in a time when equality wasn't a given.

Recent case in point: Bobby Jindal in Louisiana seriously underperformed typical Republican percentages in the rural Bubba parishes. Here in Charlotte, a big, modern southern city, black Democrats seriously underperform white Democrats because whites just won't vote for them.

Frist for prez in '08

Just one more reason (along with "Hagel", "Allen", and the governors) that the Republican powers that be won't want an annointed successor taking over as VP. There are too many people lining up their candidacies already to give way to some Vice President.

Besides, Condi would more than hold her own in a debate with Her Hinie.

Condi would make the hildebeast look like a mental midget. Hillary's hands would be tied behind her back. Any time that she lashed out against Condi in a vitriolic manner, would cost her many many black votes. This is a debate I would love to see.!!

I am not utterly ignorant of the personalities and some of their history. However, I pay NO attention to the gossip of the "insiders." I may as well read tea leaves.

I suspect that my knowledge of such things is the equivalent at least of the sources you seem to place faith in.

What about Ryan from Colorado?

But seriously, ignoring whether Condi is in fact electable, what would she do if elected? She seems better as an advisor than as a leader...

**"I agree we need to slowly move toward more conservative candidates but we are doing the opposite and slowly moving toward more moderate candidates.**

Agree, but the alternative is worse, I think, as far as getting candidates with the mindset of Dean or worse. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but the most "liberal" of conservatives has got to be better than what's being offered on the left.

No women on the ticket please.

My 73 year-old mother would absolutely agree with you.

***"No women on the ticket please"***

Love a man of few words--LOL! So it's not just black women ----just women in general? OK, you're off the hook, I won't press further.

Well, I don't care one way or the other what the sex is except in this day and age if there's a strong well qualified woman who has garnered the respect of the people then I say why not put her on the ticket in the Veep spot.

That's a fair point. It would be interesting, JohnGalt, if Baker were indeed coming in with the purpose you say, but what makes you think so? How would you know? How do you know? I am curious about that because the idea is so interesting.

It was first reported in a Canadian newspaper last Spring, but the first American report on the appearance of Baker as it related to the Cheney and the Iraq Architects that I came across was in the American Conservative, early December issue.

Several writers from different ideological back grounds-- leftwing neocon watcher Jim Lobe for instance, to AEI fellow Joshua Marshall have reported on the subject as well.

In addition, Time Magazine mentioned the 'widely held' rumor that Wolfowitz is on his way out.

(I could not find that Canadian paper article that first reported on the subject last April, but will ping you if I come across it again.)

Not to pick a fight, but she did get the Stanford's provost job at 39 and pulled it out of a billion dollar hole. That's leadership.

Look, you can argue that because an individual has not been in command of, say, a combat unit or has not been elected to anything is an automatic disqualification to elective office. However, you would be wrong. Each individual has their own set of qualifications; Condi's are sterling, especially in the warfighting department.

There are a bunch of people on this board who believe that Alan Keyes is the be all and end all to political leadership. I happen to disagree with them, but that does not lead me to conclude that Alan Keyes could not be President. In point of fact, he probably could, but unlike Rice, he would never be elected. All that bombast.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

It has been widely reported that the Jim Baker Realist faction of the party wants Cheney gone and possibly a Powell put in his place at VP. That is why Baker was brought into the Administration, to sweep out the Iraq War architects and counteract the Cheney factions.

Widely reported by your usual far-left sources? My advice to you is to not engage in too much wishful thinking, because you're only going to end up really disappointed.
