If you go back and examine history you'll find that France's assistance to us during the Revolution was more antoher excuse for them to continue their squabling with their English cousins then it was an interest in our liberty.

As for the quality of their food, wine, art, novels and philosophers that is a subjective opinion. Using France as a standard for all things cultured is highly over-rated.

And as for our fighting side-by-side with them in WWI and WWII. Yes, we did during WWI when we bailed their sorry butts out. During WWII they actually fought against us (North Africa) and fought for the Nazi's (Charlemain Division of the SS).

Screw France and the French people.

"And as for our fighting side-by-side with them in WWI and WWII..."

...it was only because we didn't want them behind us.

Fine, your opinion. But now, can I write "Screw Israel and the Israeli people," or is that somehow different from what you've written?

Washington warned us not to make irrational attachments or permanent enemies.

Screw France and the French people.

Given all the divisions we have here at home it is amazing how folks view European nations as though all citizens speak, think, and act alike.

I've spent a fair bit of time in Europe in the last couple of years, mostly in Germany, Spain & Scandanavia. People that I've met are as diverse in their views and opinions as what we see here in the U.S. Folks would do themselves some good to spend some time in that part of the world before making broad generalizations about their views.

Wasn't Lafayette -- who was our main help from France -- a pirate who often went back to France, referring to himself as an American -- not a Frenchman. (I could find the history quote if needed)

I think it was Patton who said he'd rather have a German division in front of him than a French division behind him.
