Flights From Paris to U.S. Cancelled

MSNBC just announced that three flights from Paris to the U.S. have been suddenly cancelled due to "security concerns". The first flight was scheduled to depart Paris heading for Los Angeles.

I also noticed on Air France website that they are planning some sort of merger with KLM.

US learned through Iranian sources and others that Air France itself had been infiltrated.

It certainly makes sense to look for allies where they might be most abundant.

Are they detaining the passengers and crew?

A reasonable question, but upon reflection there are others, probably more apropos:

Where did the flight come from last?
Was there time to make a thorough search of the aircraft in question?
Who had access to the aircraft in between flights? Are all the individuals known and accounted for?
Were the flights cancelled before the passengers were on board? This can be important, if it is possible some of the perps are on the flight. They should all be allowed to board and then requested to disembark and be individually videotaped on exiting. I am of the opinion that all flights ordered to land on 911 should have had every passenger videotaped for future identification.

Presumably, every crew member has had a background check. In addition, I believe strongly that every potential passenger on any airliner has the absolute right to know if a muslim crewmember is aboard, and decide to use the aircraft or not. The reasoning is complex but real, and, for me, not negotiable. Support for terrorists by acquiescence is real and massive among muslims, and until they themselves address that reality, I need to make my own judgements as to whom I fly with.

As a country where almost 90% of the inhabitants don't have passports, it is pretty obvious that the vast majority have almost no clue about foreign customs and culture, airport security at foreign airports, etc.

Condescention and presumption add very little too.
I'll match my passport against any non-business traveler. And I speak and understand enough languages to have a real good feel for the ugly side of many countries. Yes, including France. It's remarkable the things said when they assume you are clueless "dumb American". And that's not limited to any one "class". My daughter had a field day at Paris V.

I am of the opinion that well-informed people don't need a passport to have common sense.

That (now banned) idiot may not be French, but he is the next worse thing: A clueless idiot with selective memory, who assumes that the average American is similarly ignorant.
I, for one, remember very clearly that toward the end of WWII downed american fliers had to be rescued by the Germans from getting beaten to death by the French in occupied France. Yes, in the Paris metropolitan area, too.
