Immigration Reform on Bush Agenda
Washington Post ^ | December 24, 2003 | Mike Allen

Posted on 12/23/2003 7:56:18 PM PST by sarcasm

< SNIP >

Lobbyists working with the White House said Bush is developing a plan that would allow immigrants to cross the border legally if jobs are waiting for them. The sources said the administration also wants to provide a way for some undocumented workers in the United States to move toward legal status.

Bush will try to make the plan more palatable to conservatives by including stricter entry controls, including increased use of technology at the border and steps toward better enforcement of current visa restrictions and reporting requirements, sources said.

< SNIP >

The White House plan is being designed by Bush's senior adviser, Karl Rove, in consultation with the domestic policy staff. Sources said the White House's biggest concern is that the new mechanism not penalize people who had followed the law and reward those who had not. McCain's plan, which was introduced in the House by Reps. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), tries to mitigate that problem by creating a new type of visa for previously undocumented workers who would be allowed to live in the United States legally for three years. Then the workers could apply for the temporary worker visa, which would be the path to a green card, or legal permanent residency. That would amount to a three-year advantage for those who entered legally.

No. I think crime is crime. I am tired of the hypocrites in this thread. That is not the same thing as saying ALL crime is equal.

Ok let's make a deal, anyone who goes 56 mph give them a ticket. Anyone caught in the country illegally deport them. Sounds fair to me.

I see that you're a big fan of moral equivalence. I recall that you once said that you were formerly a Democrat - seems that you still adhere to their failed liberal philosophy.

BTW. your poor Mexican maid is also a criminal if she is in the country illegally. She is stealing from me when she uses public health facilities, when her children use the school system - I have no pity for illegal aliens.

However, she did ask him why he never paid and he said that if he got caught, he would just go back to Mexico. I actually believe that is the mentality of many illegals.>>>>>>

Seems to me in the last few years the *attitude* is changing. I have heard many say, "They (US gov't)will do nothing, we are too many", while they proudly fly the mexico flag.

Can I call you 'George, or is Jorge (horhay) a symbol of defiance. If you believe in the melting pot, why don't you Americanize your name. I have an ethnic last name, and pronounce it in English.

And if you believe in 'the melting pot', then why do you weave stories about illegal aliens on the run from everything American for 17 years. It is because you believe in multiculturalism and diverrrrrsity, isn't it?

It is now obvious that this was a ruse to garner support of those concerned with the INS total incompetence.

Really? or wishful thinking?

Oh, so according to you some crimes are acceptable while others are not. Hypocrite>>>>>>>>

Hmmmm......and you seem just fine with the FACT that laws are enforced against citizens, while immigration laws are not enfocred against illegals.

"Of course not, which is why any claim by Bush/Ridge that in the future immigration laws will be enforced is laughable."

You are right. After they pasas the amnesty, they will kick the can down the road, and the issue will not reach another boiling point for twenty years. They have studied the Reagan amnesty legacy. Its a win win for them.

"The friend I have been defending in this thread is NOT HISPANIC. "

You do realize that this amnesty thing would likely only end up allowing illegal Mexicans to become legal, right? (for the most part anyway) If it turns out that they give legal status to hundreds of thousands of hispanics and your friend is left out, will you still defend it? Bush is out to get the hispanic vote. That's why he's working on this. If your friend isn't hispanic, he'll likely be out of luck on this deal.

56 or above is technically illegal in a 55 MPH zone. And we all know most drivers go above 60. And we think nothing about it.>>>>>>

Apples and Oranges........NO ONE's getting a welfare check for driving 60 in 55 MPH.

We're not "anti immigrant." We're anti illegal alien.

There's a difference: immigrants obey the immigration laws. Illegal aliens are criminal invaders who break the law with their first step on American soil, and break it every day after, while they vacuum up the free health care, tuition, welfare bennies etc.

Let them go home and reform their own 3rd world pest holes, and make them liveable.

Sound fair to me too. I paid a $200 fine in Lousiana this summer for speeding. It actually made me drive slower and obey the laws.

I had to pay for breaking the law, so why shouldn't the illegals pay?

As I keep reading the posts on this thread and think 'outside the media box' for once on this issue, I see how we have been completely beaten down... conditioned to allow illegals to steal our wealth, break our laws, etc etc... and then allow ourselves to be abused further by their political machine. We are totally submissive. We have given them all we can, are peaceful, benevolent... and STILL they ATTACK in a blitzkrieg. It's insane. Two people on this thread are saying "Screw US citizens and their laws", and we are honestly debating honestly against their corrupt agenda. They have won already.

What do these people want from us? What more can we do. Despite all of the problems Illegals bring here, we treat them with respect and generosity.

My blood is beginning to boil as I think about the crap we are putting up with. They are waging a war against us on many levels, and we are negotiating surrender on Bush's terms- that La Raza endorses.

We wouldn't have taken this in the 80's. This is a different animal than the 80's amnesty. If anyone thinks that the argument that illegal immigration is eroding our nationalism and sovereigny is bogus, just take a good look at where we stand regarding a host of current issues. It is happening right in front of us, and somehow we cannot see it as a united nation.

Is there anyone else here who thought that the HS Dept was committed to tackling the Illegal Immigration problem?>>>>>>

Yes, I think one of the first speeches said HS was going to round-up the 315k absconders that had ALREADY been ordered deported.

Last I heard there's still 300k plus on the loose.

The impression I'm getting from some is that illegals are special, they work hard and they want a better life so we should excuse all their lawbreaking. I've always wondered what laws I could break that Congress would amnesty me for?

Btw that's a high fine for speeding. I'll make sure when driving through Lousiana again to do 55 lol.

I won't argue about the attitude changing. But the end result is that they always have the escape hatch by going back to Mexico if things get too hot for them.

This guy has been over here for more than 20 years without paying taxes and does not intend to pay taxes. If he ever gets caught, he has his plan which says f**k the US.

But remember, he is just doing a job that Americans won't do. (sarcasm)

The role of growing socialism, endorsed by both parties and 1000's of special interest groups, is playing a major role in the illegal immigration problem.

It is a driving force for many of our current problems. And there is no end in sight. Globalism and socialism are the enemies of individual liberty, and we are embracing it. Even with Bush at the helm.

"Let them go home and reform their own 3rd world pest holes, and make them liveable"

Thats not even an option, why fight for a land that has little to offer them in the short term? We not only encourage, we actively recruit illegals with amnesties and welfare and free education for their children. As long as it's safe and financially worthwhile for illegals to come here, they will.

The enablers can scream about the civilian border patrols intimidating the "poor undocumented workers", but someday the border cold war will turn hot and legal citizens who are tired of their home being invaded will give the panderers a real reason to scream. Thats the day that the sovereignty of the U.S. will be restored.

Not that I'm advocating violence you understand.
