Lobbyists working with the White House said Bush is developing a plan that would allow immigrants to cross the border legally if jobs are waiting for them. The sources said the administration also wants to provide a way for some undocumented workers in the United States to move toward legal status.
Bush will try to make the plan more palatable to conservatives by including stricter entry controls, including increased use of technology at the border and steps toward better enforcement of current visa restrictions and reporting requirements, sources said.
< SNIP >
The White House plan is being designed by Bush's senior adviser, Karl Rove, in consultation with the domestic policy staff. Sources said the White House's biggest concern is that the new mechanism not penalize people who had followed the law and reward those who had not. McCain's plan, which was introduced in the House by Reps. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), tries to mitigate that problem by creating a new type of visa for previously undocumented workers who would be allowed to live in the United States legally for three years. Then the workers could apply for the temporary worker visa, which would be the path to a green card, or legal permanent residency. That would amount to a three-year advantage for those who entered legally.

Bush is a globalist, no doubt about it. He shares that dream with socialists the world over.
The question is, when he is a lame duck, how far left will he go?

*Did you see how fast we got signatures to overturn SB60 the Illegal Alien driver's license bill? **I did, and who, as Governor, legislated that onerous POS away? Was it McClintock?
Do governors legislate in your state? California's different. Tell me, do you think without over half a million signature to overturn SB60, that the Democrats would have voted to overturn it? Schwarzenegger's taking credit for the results of an effort to qualify a referendum that he didn't have the guts to support outright. But RHINO ARNIE didn't did he?
See above. That's exactly what Schwarzenegger did. Meanwhile, back in Washington, Karl Rove wiped his brow in relief. *Some "non-issue" that was. What President Bush will propose will be worse by several orders of magnitude.**You will live to regret those words IMHO.

There's deals going on with Fox, no doubt about it. If I'm not mistaken the two are supposed to be meeting in January.
Whatever they got cooked up it has to be stopped in Congress, if it isn't the old Republic as we've know it is gone forever.

I hate to say Amen to that. But I am saying "amen". It is the end of the US.

"Of course neither of these would explain your hostility toward illegal immigrants..."
Jorge, when there is 'hostility', the illegals willknow it.
Now you are playing the CAIR- AMC muslim victim game. Says alot about you.
After all they take from us, you think illegals are mistreated. Unreal/

"You people need to stop making Republicans look like anti-immigrant bigots with these sort of stupid arguments."
That is over the line.
Oh boo-hoo. You are the one who claimed that just because a person's immigration status is not currently legal means they will just as likely break any kind of law there is on the books" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: books';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">books. These are the kind of ridiculous arguments that liberals point to in order to claim Republicans are bigots.
YOU need to stop defending criminals that are hurting the middle class citizens in the US JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE HISPANIC.
Talk about clueless. The friend I have been defending in this thread is NOT HISPANIC.
But lets not allow the facts to get in the way of your bigoted stereo-types.
Your 'criminals deserve amnesty' argument is one thing, but do not call sons of legal immigrants racist. That makes you a race baiting socialist.
Huh? Can somebody please translate this conglomeration of worn out cliches for me?

You are wise not to complain. Hopefully you aren't speaking from experience! :^) While they speak with a thick accent, their kids will speak with less of an accent, and their grandkids won't know a lick of Spanish. It has ever been so. Relax, they are coming here because we are successful, and their home countries are not.

"Is there no line he can cross where you won't have had enough? "
Obviously for a few here, he's like God and can do no wrong. If a democrat president did all the stuff you mentioned, everyone would be going nuts over it. But as long as he has an {R} next to his name, he can do anything he wants and excuses will be made for it. I thought there was something in the Bible about worshipping false idols.... maybe I read that part wrong. (and that last sentence was for Jodi who keeps making biblical references)

*President Bush is dissembling, Bob. **In the long run, what hits the books varies widely with the initial reports. Until then, I'm voting Rep.
So am I. As I said, my bar is low...
"President Bush simply has to not suck up to the Illegal Alien lobby. Just refrain from sucking. No Amnesty, by any name. If he can manage that, he's got my vote."

Your right, I'd say the two are unrelated. One is to try and obtain a strict constructionist judiciary, the other is to try and correct our immigration laws, which we quite obviously don't support.

Don't we already have all the laws in place we need to do what they say they want to do? Why do pinheads in government think that if they are writing new law they aren't doing anything?
Fine, write new laws. Then cancel the old ones you idiots so some smart aleck lawyer can't try to use old rules again like Gore did in Florida in 2000.
"Proof of a job waiting for them" is the same thing as current law of U.S. employers filing for sponsorship status for immigrant workers.
I'm so sick of government idiots thinking movement has to result in another layer of bureaucratic bovine scatology and new regulations. All this does is create rich bureaucrats, rich lobbyist and rich lawyers that go private but sell their government access.
It stinks on both sides of the aisle.

"Ridge's DHS now oversees INS, if he can't get them to do their job, we need a new leader. "
His 'job' was to not do the 'job'. The admin sold us on HS DEpt, in part, as THE answer to illegal immigration.
THEY LIED. And no one is holding them to account.

Well, that is pretty much what you are doing when you go 90 in a 55 zone.
What crimes are you actually OPPOSED to, if any? You seem to think all crimes are equal. They aren't.

We know exactly what is going on with II. First hand. Unfortunately, most people are working too hard or are too busy with their lives to really prepare to fight this.
We have been screwed over by our govt for years. There was collusion. They have waited until we are at a BOILING POINT, and now they are railroading us into amnesty.
We truly live under a tyrannical govt. It may sound silly, but I really cannot believe what I am seeing in this country on so many levels... it makes my head spin. There is chaos and corruption galore, and the liberties of individuals are being crushed daily. I was never a doom and gloomer, but I am starting to worry.
We have fallen a long way since the 80's.
