Bob Dornan thinks he's found Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's Achilles' heel, the issue that will be the Huntington Beach incumbent's downfall when the March Republican primary rolls around.

Drugs.

In his challenge to Rohrabacher, Dornan has quickly made the subject an issue, focusing on his opponent's drug use as a young man and his support for legalizing medicinal marijuana.

"Listen, I did everything but drink the bong water when I was young," Rohrabacher told host Bill Maher in 1996.

...

But there are plenty of people who share Dornan's skepticism. Huntington Beach resident Yvonne Wachter met Dornan and Rohrabacher last summer at a reception for her son, an Air Force pilot who bombed Baghdad on April 7. A conversation she overheard between the two men prompted her to do Internet research on Rohrabacher – which led to her discovery of his co-sponsorship of the medicinal-marijuana bill.

"He's an advocate for reefer," said Wachter, a Dornan campaign volunteer. "When you give states' rights on this, you give growers a free pass. We'll have fields of reefer."

Bwahahaha! I'll tell you what. You just can't make up this type of stuff.

What's a conservative GOPer to do?...

"This is all a bogus smokescreen for the legalization of recreational use of mind-altering chemical substances," Dornan said. "Anybody's who's ill is told, 'We can give a THC (marijuana's active ingredient) substance to you, a legal pill or patch.'"

This stuff is just too funny.

Get hooked on hillbilly heroin?

According to B-1 Bob and his campaign staff, there will soon be fields of "reefer" and we'll have Dana Rohrabacher to thank...

What's next? Charges of corrupting the youth with that wicked rock and roll music?

He and Ed Royce are the top two fiscal conservatives in the California House delegation.

He who?

"Anybody who wants to legalize marijuana or any other illegal substance is the enemy of this country," said Dornan

How about we make an issue out of that jackass Dornan and his cro-mag intellectual capacity?

"Listen, I did everything but drink the bong water when I was young,"

Tastes pretty bad. I like Dornan's patriotism, and his attitude on Fox, but this is low politics and he ought to find something else to hit his component with--especially in CA. MJ ought to be legal, including MJ in the WOD is perverse and stupid and encourages governmental plundering of the populace, but that has nothing to do with the virtue of a generally conservative (in the sense of self-responsibility and patriotism) set of political policies. Can't he find something better to work with?

What total nonsense. A relaxation of medical marijuana laws seems completely compatible with keeping the dang government out of things is needn't be involved with. And that is what conservatives ought to be about.

I don't smoke pot, and I wouldn't even if it were legal. But this is exactly the kind of issue that ought to be left entirely up to the states to regulate.

We entrust them with murder, for pete's sake.

At least Dana R is a real Californian. Dornan seemed to come back to the district (from his Virginia plantation) whenever it was time to get reelected.

He really blew it with Sanchez. He was defeated by illegal balloting by the illegals in the only precinct that Sanchez won but it was enough to put her over the top.

He ignored her and figured he would win in a cakewalk. He should have come to the district and did some campaigning and at least acted like he was a Californian from the district. Orange County demographics is not so republican as it was. I also think that people in the district were getting tired of his schtick.

Dornan needs to stick with punditing. California needs congressmen that will represent their districts. If Dornan gets elected, the next time the district will see him will be when he is up for election again.

He doesn't need our help. He and his staff are doing a pretty good job already.

I used to think that Dornan never read the Constitution, and now that he opened his mouth I'm sure of it.
