WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (CNN) -- As attorneys for Rush Limbaugh went to court Monday to try to keep his medical records out of the hands of Florida prosecutors, there have been negotiations on a possible plea bargain for the conservative talk show host, according to a spokeswoman for his radio network.

Its the Age Of Enlightenment for some folks. They're finally seeing how the War on Drugs has operated for decades. Scumbag informant who is herself involved in drugs? Check. Seizure of private records? Check. Turning up the heat the get a plea bargain? Check. It ain't nothing new.

nobody tries to plea bargain before charges are filed

There are cases where it's wise to do so. For just one example, when you're hoping to close the door on the investigation before it turns up even worse stuff (although I don't think that's Limbaugh's case).

Another is when you're concerned that even being charged with (insert heinous crime here) would do your public reputation damage even if you later beat the rap -- better to head it off at the pass and get an early plea-bargain. I suspect that's the case here, Limbaugh has his conservative reputation at stake, and getting charged with, for example, "Felony Possession with Intent to Distribute" is something that's likely to follow him the rest of his life, no matter how it eventually pans out.

Or maybe he just wants to keep his liberal enemies from being able to endlessly publish any mug shots of him.

Yep,got one guy here who thinks I am gonna spend 4 hours researching all the famous people who were convicted 2-3 times before seeing jail time. I pass. I am here for fun and unless he hasn't owned a tv for the last 20 years, he knows I'm correct:)If Rush is guilty, he should get probation and/or a fine.....nothing more.

Unless they searched his house and it was not made public, they only have the Doctor shopping charges to levy against him. He would have destroyed any meds he had when going to treatment. When this first came to light, the DA was mad at the maid for going to the Enquirer. He seemed to think it would kill their case against any number of people she was selling to.

(They originally allowed her to plea down to get her pharmacist friend that was supplying many people through her.)

Roy Black made the statement in court. Rush's former housekeeper has not denied that she tried to blackmail Rush.

From CNN it's prudent to require an actual quote that actually supports their characterization.

From the body of the article, the headline obviously means "Limbaugh lawyer discussing plea bargain " with CNN reporter LOL!

We'll see.

Do you have any link to a story where Rush has the maid on tape asking for $4 million?

But the only reason they were searching for it was because his maid who was blackmailing him at the time went to the authorities when Rush wouldn't pay her off.

The blackmail story is very credible. Since Rush didn't pay her off, she shopped the story to the tabloids along with notifying the Democrat prosecutor. If the woman was only interested in justice for Rush, why did she sell her story to the Enquirer and not tell the Democrat prosecutor? The Democrat prosecutor knows about the blackmail plot and had to switch tactics to the doctor shopping charges in order to avoid having to rely on the blackmailer as his star witness.

I'm no lawyer but I suspect the illegal nature of her expose in the Enquirer would impeach her testimony.
