Emotional problems start from within, first, then grow within.

Not all clinically depressed people have 'emotional problems'. Some people have more physical symptoms.

Until you understand this, you will continue to post irrelevancies.

You can read the Bible and talk to the pastor all night long, and it will do nothing to help.

What I think is scary, is that people who call themselves CHRISTIAN, are telling others that Jesus is NOT enough.

And the brain is the only organ that CAN be controlled by emotions, and it is US that control it.

I am not saying that it cant be influenced by disease or defect, but 99% of all emotional problems are brought upon people by themselves. And if they genuinely turn to the God of the Bible, they can find peace.

It is a shame that people who call themselves Christians don't believe this.

Think before you attack someone who died yesterday with his widow present.

I thought he died Dec. 9th? Or maybe before that? The wording on the other thread was a bit ambiguous I thought.

I don't think you understand depression, Arne. It's something untouchable, unexplainable and sometimes very destructive.

I don't claim to understand it either, but I've seen it.

Right. Physical factors and emotional factors are all involved in depression. To say it is one or the other is a complete misunderstanding.

To further complicate things, stress can deplete serotonin. So then you can't respond to the stress as well. So then serotonin gets more depleted, which basically causes more stress.

So then, you're trying to find your way out of what started as an emotional issue, but even with better coping mechanisms, you can't, because your very ABILITY to bounce back is gone.

So even with depression that starts with emotion, you have to get on a positive PHYSICAL improvement upswing, so that increased physical ability to deal and increased emotional ability to deal once again start reinforcing and you end up with a positive upward spiral instead of a negative downward one.

It's not easy to bring a downward spiral to a halt, and turn it into an upward spiral. Can it be done? Yes, but no one should assume it's just an easy thing to do.

I'm so sad for TrappedInLiberalHell, it's hard to think on the pain he must have felt and how alone he must have felt. I pray that God grants him the peace and joy that he could not find here.

I'm just getting that he committed suicide, by your post. I'm very sorry to hear that. I used to read his posts here on FR. I read many posts about how Ithica was a hotbed of evil Liberals, which is probably true. Nonetheless, his obsession with them was perhaps his downfall.

I've known several close ones to do the same. I must say that the common element I see in all of these tragedies is a streak of stubbornness and inflexibility. Now I feel guilty for not saying anything to him while he was still here. He could have been saved. May the Lord rest and heal his soul.

"The simple act of standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes would tap me out and send me deep into the depression. I depleted seretonin by using larger muscles to stand and keep my balance, going through the process of washing and rinsing the dishes, and cleaning up afterwards. Emotions had nothing to do with it. "

"Claiming emotionally strength and willpower is the key to wellness is not only wrong but too much like all the New Age crap that failed me in the first place."

You and stands2reason completely understand the problem. I urge anyone interested in the real facts of this issue to read both your posts.

I could go on for pages about the cognitive problems and physical pain and weakness. It has nothing to do with 'emotional problems' or lack of God, motivation, etc. And for many, drugs do nothing to relieve the 'negative' physical and cognitive symptoms.

People who are just situationally unhappy or hypo's are not the true sick people. No one hears from or about the truly sick people. Thanks for posting your experiences.

What I think is scary, is that people who call themselves CHRISTIAN, are telling others that Jesus is NOT enough.

Jesus is NOT enough. You need Jesus AND BREAD just in order to live.

In fact, Jesus and bread isn't enough. You need Jesus and bread and water.

In fact, Jesus and bread and water isn't enough. If you don't have vitamin C, you'll soon have scurvy.

Now I know you'll start saying, yeah, but that's all physical. THAT'S THE POINT. SOME emotional problems are caused not merely by emotion or "spiritual factors," BUT BY PHYSICAL PROBLEMS.

Try telling Terry Sciavo's parents that Jesus is all she needs to be well.

If Jesus wants to heal her, fine. But then that's Jesus plus Jesus' healing, not just Jesus.

See also my last post: Even depression problems that start out emotionally end up causing physical problems that exacerbate the depression further.

"And the brain is the only organ that CAN be controlled by emotions, and it is US that control it. "

Huh? The BRAIN controls emotions, not the other way around.

You are parroting the 'anti Psychiatry' Scientologist position.

I agree with many criticisms of Szaz, but you are way off in your theories.

Ladysmith is striking the perfect balance in her posts.

Living is easy if you just remember to quit taking yourself so seriously.

That's probably very sound advice. Yet everytime I let up, one of the balls I keep juggling suddently falls and then the cycle to keep all the others going returns, plus the problems of cleaning up the ball that fell.

Yesterday, I would have said that Conservatives never commit suicide, but as of now, I'll stick to my above post. It's inflexibility, stubbornness and lack of vision that causes suicide So, in a way, I'm in your court. At least with faith, depending on how it's interpreted, there is flexibility involved. The Bible can be read in many more ways than any dominant psychological theory.

First off, you're confusing Trapped in Liberal Hell with Behind Liberal Lines.

Nonetheless, his obsession with them was perhaps his downfall.

Second you can't pretend to know what's going on in someone's life by just reading what they post on FR.

Bless you for your efforts, but really, anyone willing to blame schizophrenia on a failure of schizophrenics is really beyond the reach of understanding modern neuropsychiatry and pharmacology.

What's that you say? You have a spot on your brain MRI? That's a disease of the organ that we use to think and will and love. Anyone who thinks Jesus alone is not the answer isn't much of a Christian. Buck up! </sarcasm>

Depression is a b*tch. Been there, done that - and at times, I'm still there (especially since I'm still job-searching). Prayer, friends and comfort in the knowledge that "this, too, shall pass."

The good Lord doesn't put more on our shoulders than we can bear. Some people cannot see that, unfortunately.

When the burdeon gets to be beyond our capabilities, turn your eyes to Him.

Not long after I started posting here, a good friend killed himself. I realized then, that those who are close can be the biggest help, simply by being there. Simply by letting you know that you matter.

My FRiends, know that I'm here, should anyone need.

No, it is intense incredible PAIN that causes suicide. "Lack of vision" is difficult when you're in pain. Try sticking your hand into a roaring fire and trying to have a vision of the future.

Let me guess, another "expert" on clinical depression...
