[history]
Three Maryland researchers have admitted fabricating interviews with teenagers for a study on AIDS prevention that received more than $1 million in federal funds.
Lajuane Woodard, Sheila Blackwell and Khalilah Creek were employed by the University of Maryland at Baltimore's department of pediatrics as researchers on the study, funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

I somehow don't believe we'll be curing or preventing HIV with fake scientific data. The modern American University is a corrupt and amoral joke.

Further proof that promiscuous sex can be "safe" is a lie.

"Science should have oversight from Congress but it ought not to be at the level of specific grants," Dr. Drazen told United Press International. "You just give us the money...we'll decide what to do with it!!!"

I suspect the good California congressman was defensive because his state benefitted from such bizarre grants. NIH gave several million to study the effects of methaine (sp?) gas emissions produced by dairy cows. Anyone who has driven through central California can tell you the effects...it makes you plug your nose! DUH!

I'm sorry, but I don't think that ANYONE with a name like: "Lajuane or Khalilah" would have the "mind-set" to be a serious researcher in anything.
Parents that would name their kids like that normally would NOT be the type that would be encouraging their children towards scholarly endeavours, but revolutionary racial conflict instead.

Exactly. Universities view modern society as a life support system for a walking ATM card. They should become truely private. They already behave like corporations.

So at what level, I wonder, should that oversight begin? Maybe if the fraudulent universities had to pay the grant money back there would be better provision for researcher oversight before results were published.

When can we expect them to repay the money they stole?

More recently, the New England Journal of Medicine denounced congressional probes of research grants. Such scrutiny risks turning sex research into a "political football," warned the journal's editor, Dr. Jeffrey Drazen. No, giving government grants to sex research automatically makes it a political football. Let's see what we can learn from some real sex research, like the Kinsey report...oops, that's been exposed as a fraud too.

Where do you think evil corporations get their unethical scumbags from? The same place that government funded research institutions get theirs from.
To: .cnI redruM
This type of fraud is more common than not because of liberal admission policies of PC colleges.
To: The_Victor
Our current joke of a university system is a threat to American global preeminence.

Very true. Once they stopped admitting or grading based upon merit, they had no basis by which to apply or enforce any standards.

Bump and ping.
"This scandal underscores the need for oversight of all federal programs even NIH to ensure taxpayer dollars are not misspent and science is not manipulated," the congressman said.
I'm for more responsible spending myself. Will oversight of all federal programs come back to bite us someday?
