This discovery is unheard of in a user case. They are fishing pure and simple looking to see if they can find something. This is nothing more than a criminal law audit.

If this was a real criminal case, it would have been dumped into drug court long ago based on evidence, not politics.

Rush was aware of the 10K limit. He made withdrawls just under the limit to avoid the reporting. That is money laundering by definition.

LOL that's a laugh, avoiding the reporting limit is no more illegal than avoiding the speed limit. Money laundering is the active conversion of illegally gained money into money that cannot be traced. This was just a legal withdrawal.

I haven't been following this that closely but seems one issue was he said he required extremely large doses. Doctors probably would not have given him as much as he wanted. Plus I believe he said in some many words that he enjoyed taking them (not a very bright confession to make to millions of listeners IMO).

The bank Rush was dealing with paid a fine for doing it. Reputable banks DO NOT ask customers to do this, because it happens to be against the law and we bankers are well aware that we are very closely watched.

I know of a case where an employee of someone (with alzheimers) drained the bank account (had check writing power) by writing many checks just under the limit. After the bank finally (after some months) gave up the records (in response to a thread of contempt-of-court), the jury decided this was ok anyway.

It has been reported (I don't know, I was in Cleveland) that Rush took out large sums of CASH, to defeat the reporting requirements. His bank paid a fine (admission of guilt). (In an earlier thread, one idiot justified the act, by saying that lots of people in FL pay their contractors in CASH, which is an illegal action, if not reported)
It has been reported (Rush has confirmed this) that Rush took massive quantities of drugs, obtained from illegal sources. (and most likely PAID IN CASH, since drug dealers don't normally take checks!!) Much of the time he did it to "feel good"!

private medical records are not public records.

And given the new HIPPA laws, releasing medical records is a series crime.

In order to even work on computers at a medical office, I have to sign a non-disclosure form.

Limbaugh: Agents Seized Medical Records

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Rush Limbaugh told listeners on his radio show Thursday that prosecutors in Palm Beach County have seized medical records from four of his doctors.

Limbaugh, reading from a statement prepared by his attorney, denied any wrongdoing and accused prosecutors of going on a "fishing expedition." The conservative commentator said the medical records will clear him.

Limbaugh was absent from his show for five weeks recently while spending time at a drug rehabilitation program because of his addiction to prescription painkillers.

Previously, law enforcement sources in Palm Beach County, where Limbaugh owns a $24 million oceanfront mansion, confirmed that a criminal investigation into a prescription drug ring involved Limbaugh. His former maid, Wilma Cline, reported supplying him with OxyContin and other painkillers.

Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney's office, declined comment.
