December 4, 2003 -- THE controversial telepic "The Reagans," re-airing tonight, resurrects the old lefty theme of Ronald Reagan's alleged malign neglect on AIDS and hostility to gays.
When Nancy Reagan pleads with the president to "say something" about AIDS as it emerges, he completely ignores her and buries his face in a briefing book.

I vividly remember AIDS being a huge issue during the Reagan administration and I can't recall any contemporaneous criticism of the Reagan administration on that issue. It was such a huge issue that my elementary school handed out booklets about AIDS. The copyright date on the book was 1986, during Reagan's administration, and the booklets were published by some government division, though I can't remember which. I was only 11 in 1986. Obviously, educating children about the myths, realities, and dangers of HIV/AIDS was a big priority in the mid to late 1980s...when Reagan was president.

Did Mondale say ANYTHING about AIDS when we was running for President?

Did Mondale say ANYTHING about AIDS when we was running for President? No idea, that was almost 20 years ago. I don't remember anyone saying anything about AIDS in 1984, but then again I was only 9 years old at the time.

Don't be silly:) Mondale couldn't spell AIDS.

they didn't know what AIDS was or even have a name for it until late 1983. I remember, because one of my 'men' got was in the hospital in Houston, dying, and no one knew what it was until 3 weeks before he died, 20 Nov 83. And then we weren't sure, and weren't sure what caused it, or how it was transmitted. In fact it was basically unknown, and we didn't even begin to understand it, even a little, until 1984.

Didn't they still call it "the gay cancer" back then?

I understand that it is important to debunk the lies of the leftist homosexual agenda, especially when they re-write history. However, there is a bigger picture that most people get sidetracked from seeing - the notion that Reagan was repsonsible for the spread of AIDS because he did'nt spend or care enough is a lie. The reason it spread was because of risky behavior like drug needle use and having sex with multiple anonymous partners in bath houses.
