Pinellas Park, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Members of Terri Schiavo's family celebrated her 40th birthday on Wednesday as supporters gathered outside of the Woodside Hospice building where she lives. Pro-life people from across the United States came to show their support for the woman who has become the focus of the national debate over euthanasia.
"The support for Terri has been overwhelming. Our family is touched by the tremendous outpouring of love and encouragement for our daughter," said Terris mother, Mary Schindler.
According to Terri's family, many supporters came bearing gifts and several hundred people sent Terri birthday cards and while others gave balloons and cupcakes.
Students from Margaret K. Lewis School in Panama City, Florida, also reached out to Terri.
Dozens of special needs students, many who have their own feeding tubes, learned they could send birthday wishes. Though they needed help from teachers and assistants to draw their cards and sign their names, that didn't stop them from letting Terri know they care.
"So many of these are children with feeding tubes," says Susan Perry who works at the school.
Perry told WMBB-TV, "They are human beings just like Terri. They want her to understand they know what she's going through, and if their feeding tubes were taken away from them they would go hungry. They just want to wish her a very happy birthday."
Some who came in person to support Terri brought special homemade items.
Jeanie Dicus of California brought a hand-crafted a quilt with lavender flowers and intricate needle-work for a gift. Cheryl Ford of Florida put together a collage of photos from people around the world who support the disabled woman and her plight.
Pamela Hennessy, a representative of Terri's family, said it was comforting to know people "see Terri as a person and not an 'issue.'"
"This gives us all pause to remember those amongst us who may not be able to speak for themselves -- but who are still, very much part of our human race," Hennessy added.
Birthday cards are one of the few things Terri gets to see in her hospice room. According to Terri's family, Michael Schiavo has prevented her from receiving flowers. However, the Schindler family is allowed to take cards and other gifts to her while the legal battle continues.
Birthday greetings for Terri can be sent to The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, 4615 Gulf Boulevard, #104-103, St. Petersburg Beach, Florida 33706.

Thanks for the ping!
I was *hoping* for a first hand account. :o)

Thanks for reporting! Sounds like a great crowd, and of a size that would facilitate everyone's talking to many of the other attendees.
Did you hear anything about Terri? Was she enjoying the day?
Did her family get our FR messages?
It sounds like all of you had fun! :o)

Yippee! Here is a little photo album of pictures from Terri's party.
Terri's 40th Birthday Party
I wanted to link to them individually, but it doesn't work (javascript). You can download the album by clicking "View larger" and then "share pictures", which generates an email to whatever email address you specify. From the email link, look for "save to" to the right of the photo, from which you can select your computer or another album. Enjoy!

He's a monster, all right.
So if Michael R. Schiavo is a "monster," what is Wolfson? Wolfson says essentially that Schiavo is as "loving, caring, and compassionate" a person as he ever observed trodding the soil of earth. I think we would be as suspicious of Wolfson as anyone else in this tragedy of Shakesperean proportions.

Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures. This is heartbreaking, and I imagine it brought some pleasure to the Schindlers to see all the love and support for Terri.

I wasn't there, these were emailed to me, but it sure is heartbreaking! So many emotions: unity, love, pain, fear, hope and outrage. Now the battle to get Wise's bill to the floor has begun. One email at a time!

What is Wolfson? Gullible.
The consensus of Michael watchers around here seems to be that he's a sociopath -- charming on the outside, utterly self-consumed on the inside. Nobody else matters to him except to use them as tools to his own ends (do you hear that, Jodi?). If you can't see past the charm, if you don't look at the facts we've uncovered about Michael abusing Terri for ten years with the power of legal guardianship, then MS will seem to be a normal citizen. Even his lame excuses for killing his wife will resonate with people who have been conditioned to think that Terri is brain-dead and on a respirator.

Yes, and knowledgeable Freepers called that in advance, objecting strenuously to his appointment. All we ever ask -- or need -- is a NEUTRAL observer willing to investigate thoroughly.

I enjoyed the album! The table was very nicely set up, and I loved the flowers (and the little white bear with the pink outfit). The cake was
gorgeous! I wish I could have hopped on a plane and gotten me a piece. A corner with some flowers, of course! :oD
I thought the photos were lovely, and I was very touched. Most of all, I saw the love shining through. :o)

I didn't like the idea of Wolfson's appointment, but when initial news came out about his report, I felt encouraged.
However, the more I read, the more I see his general orientation showing through.
His dialogue with pc93 was especially damning. (pc93, my hat's off to you - great job!)
Jeb Bush's response to Wolfson's report was excellent. We have to take heart that Jeb and his team dealt very well with it. We also have to run with Wolfson's recommendation of therapy for Terri. The media did publish that, and hopefully it will have a positive impact on people who don't have much knowledge about Terri's situation.

He has a standing order that all religious items sent to Terri are to be tossed at once into the trash. I find this to be especially hard to stomach.

I'm surprised he wasn't prosecuted for animal cruelty.

Isn't it? Michael Schiavo should have his own place in the Guinness Book of Records for being mean and vindictive.
I've been puzzling over legal guardianship. It evidently confers absolute power. Terri is a slave without any rights. In this incident, he takes away her first-amendment religious rights. Similarly, he won't let her have flowers, he bars visitors, he won't let her sit up, he won't let her go outside, he stole all her therapy money, he denies her needed medical treatment, he sticks her away in a back room, he has tried several times to deny her even her basic right -- life (fifth, fourteenth amendments). And, he denied her the Communion host when she received last rites.
