2 More Shootings Linked To Highway Death Authorities: Elementary School Was Target
NBC 4 Columbus ^ | December 2, 2003

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ballistics tests have matched two more shootings to the one that killed a 62-year-old woman one week ago along a stretch of Interstate 270, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

A previously reported shooting incident that occurred Nov. 21 on U.S. Route 23 and another shooting at an Obetz elementary school have been linked to the shooting death of Gail Knisley, 62, of Washington Court House.

Steve Martin, chief deputy at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, said a bullet was fired into the Hamilton Township Central Elementary School at 1105 Rathmell Rd. in Obetz at 1:35 a.m. on Nov. 11. No students or employees were in the building at the time of the shooting. An alarm went off at the school when the bullet entered a window, Martin said.

Although ballistics tests could not link the remainder of the shootings along Interstate 270, investigators said they "are comfortable" saying all 12 are connected, he said. He would not elaborate.

The other shooting now linked to Knisley's death occurred at 7:45 p.m. Nov. 21. A bullet struck Edward Cable's vehicle while he was driving south on Route 23, south of I-270 and north of Rathmell.

Martin said the shooting at an elementary school is a "big leap" for authorities working on the case. "This takes us off of 23 and 270 and into a rural area," Martin said.

Martin said investigators didn't know about the elementary school shooting until Monday. A ballistic test concluded that the shooting was related to the one that killed Knisley. The latest ballistic tests bring the total number of related shootings to four. The other occurred on Oct. 19.

Well, I can see this will probably be pointless to point out, but there was never an official description of any suspects put out in that case. Just the white van. Speculation about the race of the perps was rampant on cable news shows by people not directly connected with the case.

What a flaming piece of revisionist crap. Where do you think those press accounts came from?

And, if you Google the press accounts, you find that the "white man" in a "white van" story was spread by two former FBI profilers.

The investigators don’t have a lot to go on. There is very little evidence in the shootings. Sometimes the profiles help and other times they hinder the investigation. I’ve seen one profile about this sniper. If you would like to read it, here is the link: http://www.nbc4columbus.com/news/2676500/detail.html

Any word on caliber?

Yesterday, News Channel 4 reported that it was a 50 caliber weapon. Then they came back and said it was NOT a 50 caliber and apologized for the mistake. I don’t know if they accidentally leaked that information and wasn’t supposed to, or if they genuinely made a mistake.

Not good. We plan to visit Easton Station off 270 on Dec. 20. Course, if we get shot at and live, maybe a book contract? :)

Interesting! That's the first I had heard of it. I heard another rumor somewhere about deer slugs.
