My causalgia pain (burning, searing, Richter scale 10) finally let up yesterday.
I finally figured out what caused the excess swelling that pinched my nerves so badly--my low albumin level. When I had the blood poisoning, my mucus membranes (nasal, gut, brochials) were damaged by the toxin, and they leak fluid and protein, so it hard for me to keep my albumin levels up.
When albumin is normal, it holds fluid in cells by hydrostatic pressure, but when albumin is low fluid leaks into cells, swelling them.
My operated tissues swelled far more than usual because of this problem, and being on IV's with no protein intake for a couple days. And that put a lot of pressure on my nerves in the area.
Thank our dear Lord that this problem has now been overcome--partly by my husband helping raise my protein levels by cooking poached eggs for me and bringing me tapioca pudding and sherbet and making turkey sandwiches for me.
My recovery should now be more normal, although I expect to be exhausted for some weeks to come.
Thanks to all for their prayers! I really, really needed them!

Wow, that sounds rough. I'm glad you are doing better. I remember craving protein after I had some surgery (althought nothing like the albumin depletion you describe), but the need for protein was intense. Healing tissues demanding it I suppose.
Rest and take care.
