Hil hails troops in Baghdad, raps Prez
New York Daily News ^ | 11/29/03 | RICHARD SISK

WASHINGTON - Arriving in Baghdad hours after President Bush's star turn, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) said yesterday the troops were happy to meet her, too. "It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton said, yet "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself" and Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) on their joint trip to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Clinton and Reed, both members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, quickly turned from faintly praising Bush for his surprise Thanksgiving drop-in at Baghdad's airport to ripping his handling of the Iraq war and the transition to democracy.

In a conference call from the region, Clinton, who voted in the Senate for the Iraq war resolution, charged that Bush failed to commit enough troops for the invasion and the increasingly bloody occupation effort.

"The Pentagon tried to make do with as few troops as possible, as light a footprint as they could get away with," Clinton said. "Now, we're playing catchup."

She added that the government's Iraq policy was mishandled by Bush administration officials who have been "obsessed with [deposed Iraqi leader] Saddam Hussein for more than a decade."

"Unfortunately, I don't think they fully appreciated the conditions we would encounter," Clinton said.

Reed, who voted against the war resolution, renewed his call for more troops to be committed to Iraq and for more troops to be recruited for the war against terror groups in the future.

"There's no question in my mind we need a larger Army," said Reed, a West Point graduate and former paratrooper.

The two senators, who stayed in Kuwait last night but will visit U.S. troops in the Iraqi oil town of Kirkuk today, also questioned the Bush administration plan to hold elections for a new Iraqi government by June.

Clinton said the support of the majority Shiite community in Iraq was "still a big if. The obstacles and problems are much greater than the administration usually admits to."

The former First Lady said the morale of the troops she met from the Army's 82nd Airborne Division was high, but they were concerned about how their mission was perceived back home.

She said she told the troops "Americans are proud" of them, "but many question the administration's policies."

Have I missed something, or are there no smiling people near Hillary in any of her photo ops? It’s been a while since I’ve seen her with a smiling person paying her any attention.

The compare-and-contrast footage speaks volumes. And CNN's not doing Her Heinous a favor by giving her so much airtime. It just allows viewers to see again and again the difference in the welcomes accorded to Hilliary and the president.

I read about u.n. "peace keepers" in Africa not only refuse to protect the people they were supposed to be guarding but actually hand them over to their enemies to be killed when the enemies threatened the u.n. troops.

I think the interesting thing about this is the source of the comments. The troops aren't saying they are glad to see Hillary. Hillary is saying they are glad to see Hillary.

The entire article is about her and what she thinks people are thinking about her. She continues to be the most self-absorbed person I have ever seen.

You're correct about Her self-centeredness, Jane. We can add haughtiness to the mix reminiscent of King Louie XIV...."L'etat, c'est moi" ("The state is ME").

It's to be noticed how She hardly uses the word "I" in Her TV sound bites. It's usually the imperial "We".

In my opinion, Her use of the word "myself" in that horrible sentence is indicative of a scary Freudian disconnect in Her inner psyche. On one hand, She views Herself as royalty, on the other hand She sees Herself as the advocate of the downtrodden.

She's really unstable and mentally whacked out.

LOL - it always pays to read the replies first! I highlighted the same phrase, and was going to make similar observations.

Crusty the pantsuit

Was like clothes that you'd discard,

With a sweat-stained top

And a stretched-out butt

And two legs that smelled like lard.

Crusty the pantsuit

Was pulled out most ev'ry day.

As she put it on,

Hilly sang this song:

"Black is slimming, so they say."

She must have bought the pantsuit from A wizard or an elf, For when she took it off at night, It stood up all by itself! Oh . . . Crusty the pantsuit Was a fashion felony, But the Freepers say, "We can laugh and play With these threads on Hillary." Frumpety frump frump, Frumpety frump frump, Look at Crusty glow. Rumpety rump rump, Rumpety rump rump, Over the Hill we go! Charlie Henrickson 94 posted on 11/28/2003 5:27 PM PST by Charles Henrickson (A tagline is a terrible thing to waste.) "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself"

Someone tell me:

Has the pronoun "me" been totally replaced in English usage by the awkward "myself"?

And to make it worse, I heard some sports type on TV the other day say "Myself is doing (whatever)......"

Sounds terrible, just like the Rotten speaker in this case.

It's the vision of a 6'3" guy doing Hill's shock and anger that does it.It's the falsetto voice. It's the sight not the dialog!Let's just say I begged for mercy as I was laughing so hard! He's a guy,guy..that's why it's so funny. We were all loving how delicious it was that the Hill from Hell was upstaged!

The former First Lady said the morale of the troops she met from the Army's 82nd Airborne Division was high, but they were concerned about how their mission was perceived back home.

She said she told the troops "Americans are proud" of them, "but many question the administration's policies."

Jesus, Mary and Joseph!!! A one-woman(?) morale-wrecking crew! She's not on a fact-finding mission; she's on a mission to undermine our soldiers' confidence that they are doing the right thing and that the majority of Americans' support their mission. What a miserable, vengeful, angry, evil, piss-poor excuse for a human being.

I''m sorry. Please excuse my use of profanity... after seeing some of the best and brightest of our soldiers laid up at Walter Reed with severe and life-altering injuries, to hear that this self-important, self-serving slut is over in Iraq and Afghanistan saying things that will make these men and women question the value and morality of their work angers me beyond words.

Had she even a sliver of a conscience and a soul, she would have kept her miserable mouth shut and stayed home. What a common woman she is. Jane Fonda, move over.
