Authorities have been investigating 10 shootings on or near a stretch of Interstate 270 (search), the highway that circles Columbus. On Tuesday, Gail Knisley, 62, was killed after a bullet ripped through the driver's door of her best friend's car on I-270, narrowly missing the driver.

Franklin County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Steve Martin (search) said Friday that ballistic tests show Knisley's case was possibly linked to at least one other shooting case and "investigators cannot eliminate the possibility that several other reported cases are related as well."

I can remember during the mid 90's we had a sniper down in Orange Park, Fl who was shooting cars as an initiation test to enter a gang. I hope someone see's who it is and puts a bullet through their brain, they deserve it.

Haven't these shooting incidents in Ohio increased since the guilty verdict and death sentence of the Virginia sniper?Copycat or retaliation?

Ten shootings in the same area, and they only just noticed? This sounds like more than a computer problem. So far, none of the accounts have given many details of the earlier shootings.

Ten shootings in the same area?

Yea, I would say it sure could be, unless it was the same vehicle shot at everytime and the shooter is a lousey shot!

Off subject, boy that Steve Martin isn't just a wild and crazy guy, he is also multi-faceted isn't he?

I was going to comment on that. As I recall, those shootings were also along a bypass route, in that case around Jacksonville. Did they ever catch that shooter? I don't recall.

It was on I-295 which is a bypass from I-95 to I-10 & through Jax/Orange Park and back to I-95 but it is 8 lanes of pure driving hell come rush hour. Yes they caught them, they were teen agers that got a slap on the wrist if i'm not mistaken. As far as i'm concerned they should've taken them out back and showed them what it was like to have few bullets passed through their bodies.

Here we go again! Want great coverage? Suggest the sniper is an angry white Christian, former military, gun owning, miltia member and there will be wall to wal coverage. But, be warned. The media got burned badly in Maryland when the actual sniper did not meet their bias reporting stereotyping requirements and the killer turned out to be a black Muslim.

Naturally, the media is cautious here. It doesn't matter how many people die. They won't report until they are certain the killer meets their required non-diversity demographics.

I live about 15 minutes away from the site of the shootings on I-270. I usually don't use that section of the freeway but did so this morning on the way back from the airport.

There is a large dissimilarity b/w Muhammed/Malvo and this situation. M/M - random shootings, multiple deaths, wide area. I-270 - random, one death, relatively small area.

Some locals are suggesting that it could be a gang initiation.

The Columbus Dispatch has a good story in the online version of the paper - www.dispatch.com. I am sure there is a fair bit not being stated by police/sheriff to avoid panic.

Sniper?

I doubt it.

How would the sniper be able to conceal his rifle, since they haven't passed a CCW bill in Ohio yet?

"Some locals are suggesting that it could be a gang initiation."

If so, ALL members of the gang should be charged with conspiracy to commit murder and multiple accounts of attempted murder shot.

But I'd settle for the lined out part.

I am sure that whoever is doing the shooting feels safer knowing that law abiding Ohioans keep their firearms in a locked, hermetically sealed box - safely out of reach in case they might need to defend themselves.

Kinda sick, isn't it?

Sniper?

Not a very accomplished one if he/she is shooting from the roadside.

To hit the driver's side (which is on the inside lane the highway) they would have had to miss the passenger side of all cars passing in the opposite direction.

To deliberately target the driver's side implies shots from another car-somewhat unlikely since the trajectory is reported as upward from a mid car position-or shooting from the median which would be a highly exposed position.

All speculation based on newspaper hearsay evidence, of course.

Best regards,

Hunting season just opened. The shootings began last spring during closed season.
