Heck, I'll say yes.
My section chief was a former tanker, and spoke of it with some nostalgia.
But he liked being in artillery as well, he said, due to the loud noises andexplosions.. and that he can see the round fire and smell the powder and...

The closest i came ot any tread related activity was sitting in the driver's seat of an M109 Paladin, and then looking inside the Abrams that my old armory had sitting in D 101 cav's motorpool area.

Most likely they told the kid to get rid of the gun, and he ran the wrong way. But there have been cases among the Palestinians where young kids have been deliberately shoved into the middle of fire fights in order to get them killed and gain some good publicity.

Tankers are targets, I was with an Armored Cav SQ in VN, I could get very small very fast, can't do that in a tank.

In police work, the term for this kid is "bought and paid for", meaning the officer responding is totally justified.

Amazing restraint, cool headedness and good aim.Cool headed, indeed, assuming he actually registered that it was a child. I once literally ran off the road when a child in a station wagon stuck his upper body out of a rear window and pointed (what was presumably) a toy rifle at me. Granted I didn't have much combat training (was a tech in the Air Force at the time) but I assure you I didn't process any information about size and scale. I saw a gun pointed at me and responded instantly, and only to that.

What is a seven year old child doing holding an AK 47? <<< I had my first gun, a single shot 22 Remington rifle, at 9 years old. My Dad felt strongly that knowledge of how to handle a gun and gun responsibility can only be taught by having the kid own one.
The kids that shoot friends or themselves when they come across a gun have never had the benefit of being trained on their lethality and proper use.
Ignorance is not the answer!!

Me and my typing.
I sometimes think faster than I type, and then get a bunch of gibberish on the screen.
Eggnog, YES!
Me, I'm having some coffee, and will be switching to my personal brew soon.
It has been requested that i brew some.
Shall anyone say a prayer for the poor person who is about to experience my coffee?
