How was JFK getting the best of the Soviets. He screwed up the Bay of Pigs invasion...stood by helplessly as the Berlin Wall went up...and backed down at the Cuban missile crisis. The USSR didn't get to establish a missile base in Cuba but we gave up a strategic asset in Turkey that was already well established. Kruschev thought Kennedy was a pampered rich boy in over his head and in a lot of ways he was right.
