Welcome back, Rush! I may not always agree with you, but I respect the hell out of ya. Godspeed to a continued road to recovery.
That said, it's time to kick some Dem ass!

Yep. Part of the history is portrayed in the movie about Bill W. starring James Woods. One of Bill's drinking buddies had sobered up by using the principles of the Oxford Groups, inspiring Bill to look into what they were doing. He used their principles as the starting point for the 12 Steps. Unfortunately, however, his buddy relapsed and later died.

I just went back to check front page of latest articles on FR and there's a new post talking about a tornado moving into the Houston area. If anyone monitoring this thread is from Houston, you might want to check out the info.

Yep, but not one that I would care to visit for more than an hour.
Wow, a drug addict since '95 - '96 --- he's into his recovery big time. Bravo!

yes, I think he is going to dump Marta. Hopefully he has a pre-nup. Behind every troubled man, there is often an uncaring woman.
To: oceanview
That's a pretty Matrix-like jump, compadre: he says nothing, so that means he's going to dump his (for all we actually know) loyal, devoted wife? Yikes!
Hey, I didn't mention my wife yet either. Does that mean...?
In a word, "no."

The Mormon missionaries have been visiting me for 50 year, I've only been sober for 28 years. :)

"...a drug addict since '95 - '96" "WOW" is right...I thought it'd been a problem for a lot shorter time...hope the dependency hasn't spoiled his health too much in other ways.

I don't think it would be unusual for alot of people here to be addicts. FreeRepublic is an addictive site. I'm not kidding about this.

We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreamsWe, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth. ~Arthur O'Shaughnessy

I have really wondered about Marta. Who knows what her role was-perhaps she did know and tried to get him to seek treatment. Perhaps, she did know and didn't care--as long as the lifestyle was keeping up. Who knows, maybe she herself has some sort of substance problem. Maybe she has five martini's before lunch and never noticed. We can only speculate.
But, yeah, that was my thought. It sounds like his marriage is over.

How do you know he hadn't attended church previously? (a genuine inquiry, not sarcasm).
