Pavel Pittermann, a spokesman for the nuclear safety office, said that first checks of four parcels containing the substance detected traces of thorium and uranium.

Yawn. As long as these fumbling wankers stay away from Byproduct materials and waste their time on low specific activity natural isotopes, fine. It keeps them occupied, and waste's terrorists' time and money.

Found it interesting that Prague is in the news once again as a meeting place for terrorists to possibly make WMD deals.

Found it interesting that Prague is in the news once again as a meeting place for terrorists to possibly make WMD deals.

During the Cold War, Prague was a clearing house for international terrorists trained and equipped by the KGB and its east-bloc clones. The Czech intelligence service was heavily co-opted by the KGB, and used to coordinate the KGB's wet work with the Bulgarians.

Old habits die hard, and terrorists trained during the cold war tend congregate in Prague--like homing pigeons returning to roost--to hook up with their old (and largley mafia employed) ex-bosses.

The new Czech government is trying hard to root all of this out and clean up its act. But draining the swamp is easier said than done.

One of the police at the deal used special equipment to detect the radioactive material, Kosinova said.
I think the word that we're looking for is "geiger counter." They're neat. This post has tickled my funny bone.
Special equipment. Heh.
