From Rochester Democrat &Chronicle:

Clinton seeks air patrols at Ginna

(November 12, 2003) — U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton has suggested that jet fighters fly combat air patrols over the state’s nuclear power plants to guard against possible terrorist attacks.

Clinton, D-N.Y., made her suggestion in light of a warning sent to law enforcement officials last week that terrorists might be planning to hijack cargo aircraft in other countries and fly them into key targets in the United States, including nuclear plants.

Several plants, including the Ginna nuclear generating station in Ontario, Wayne County, “are located on the United States-Canada border and could, therefore, be considered extremely vulnerable to the kind of attack described in this latest warning,” Clinton said in a letter she sent today to federal officials.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security verified Friday that it had issued a warning about the possibility that nuclear plants, dams, bridges or other parts of the nation’s infrastructure could be targeted. Authorities said a hijacking could involve jets seized and re-routed from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean.

News stories said the warning was based on uncorroborated information from a single overseas intelligence source.

Officials at the homeland security department said Friday they had alerted state and local authorities as a precaution but that they saw no need to increase the terrorist threat level from its current “elevated” or yellow status.

Clinton this morning released the text of her letter to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Homeland security officials could not be reached immediately for comment.

Don't put too mush stock in it. The letter was written by a woman who showed that she could care less about the dead on 9/11/01 and attempted to turn atrocities into political capital. Which backfired. Whether the threat turns out to be real or not, it costs Hillary! nothing to write it, take credit for it, hysteria monger and use it for a campaign platform to show she's suddenly "tough on terrorism".
