There is a real filibuster going on. The "real" filibuster you are referring to seems to be wanting them to talk, talk, talk...well,they don't have to do that unless they just want to. As long as there aren't the votes for cloture, the nomination is stalled, regardless of whether or not they chose to hold the floor.
Then the Republicans should force the Dims to filibuster indefinitely until the cloture vote suceeds. Eh?
