Officials in the U.S.-led administration had no immediate comment on Bremer's trip to Washington

I wasn't even thinking 'bad' news. There's a word for that, you know. It's called optimism ;-) It's a good thing.

Bremer is doing a great job. Its Sanchez who should be fired. If Bremer resigns, that is a major blow to Bush and the overall effort in Iraq.

As this hits the news Administration comments or lack of comments will be a clue.
To: biss5577
you mean Bremer is targeted by the terrorists? well, that is hardly news, but maybe they had some intel that indicated an attempt to kill Bremer was imminent.

Sorry, I meant the General.

Captured? Unearthed pieces maybe... Just curious though, how come they never even captured any of the two dozen Saddamm look-a-likes?

the fate of all the "doubles" has been one of those un-asked, un-answered questions, along with many others.

Why would Bremer leave if they captured Saddam? Personal consultation with the CIC. I don't see it. Bremer could give Sec Rumsfeld/Dubya the good news via a secure call, and not blow off a meeting with a key ally.

None of this makes sense. Maybe a family issue here in the states?

With Gen. Abizaids comments in mind, this unscheduled trip does sound like there is definitely something big on the horizon. Unscheduled and skipping out on the Polish PM....
Ah, well.... We're sure to figure it out eventually.

I have to agree with you there. Whatever they are meeting about has to be "leak proof"... It's something huge.
Allow me to put on my "tin hat" for just a second...
What if this is like in the "Godfather"? And Bremer cancelled the meeting because it was a trap?
Ok.. "Tin hat" off.

Probably recalled for his comments about our lack of good intelligence.

"the fate of all the "doubles" has been one of those un-asked, un-answered questions, along with many others." Yes, I, too, find the media's lack of curiosity about the well-known doubles quite interesting indeed. I rather imagine that the doubles have quietly drifted out of the country and stopped trying to maintain their resemblance to Sad Man.

Bremer Returns to Washington Amid Frustration in Iraq
By Ariana Eunjung Cha, Peter Slevin and Fred Barbash Washington Post Staff Writers Tuesday, November 11, 2003; 11:29 AM
BAGHDAD, Nov. 11 -- L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. civilian administrator in Iraq, is returning unexpectedly to Washington for high level consultations amid continued frustration with the performance of Iraq's U.S.-appointed Governing Council, administration officials said Tuesday.
The Bush administration is considering changes in the structure and timing of Iraq's transition self-governance, including a new Iraqi constitution and elected government, said an administration official involved in Iraq policy in Washington.
In September, Bremer outlined a seven-step plan for Iraqi sovereignty. "It's beginning to be realized that it's not going to follow that path," the official said. "And we need some kind of provisional government that we can give some kind of authority to. The whole political piece is a work in progress. He's got a lot of work to do."
Bremer's mission will be to "consult, consult, consult," particularly on Iraq's political structure, the official said.
One issue under discussion is the sequence of restoring sovereignty to Iraq. The Bush administration appears to be backing away from its earlier insistence that a constitution must be written and ratified by nationwide referendum before Iraqis gain significant sovereignty.

I dunno Coop, if they did get Saddam then he may want to deliver the news personally.
I'm thinking it could only be one of two things. Either they got Saddam or they are getting Bremer out of their cause of an attack. Let's hope it is the former and not the later.

I hope it's some sort of personal family emergency. Otherwise, it indicates a huge fight going on internally in the administration sparked by the Abizaid comments.
