One rumor is that the Council may be replaced by an interim government similar to the Afghan government.

A very good point. And those same fellows who where wailing and gnashing their teeth about all our soon-to-be casualties before the war are now wailing and gnashing their teeth about the causulaties today. Is anything worth doing today if we have to face a hardship? Even if it means avoiding LARGER hardship later?
I wirte this as a old military retiree who would gladly put back on his uniform and go to Iraq if they'd have me.

President Bush is not motivated by what the democrats SAY or DON'T SAY. Come on... I'm a Bush fan... but this statement is complete denial.

"With Gen. Abizaids comments in mind, this unscheduled trip does sound like there is definitely something big on the horizon"
Surely, you don't think the General's comments were made without Rumsfeld's approval ?

"Putting a torturer back in Baghdad"
---There are others.
"and rearming the loyal Baathist Army would be losing the war."
The army wasn't really Baathist, and certainly not loyal to Saddam. The 400,000+ army didn't fight at all. They went home, or stayed in the barracks.
They're on our payroll now.

US overseer Paul Bremer in occupied Iraq will visit Washington for 'routine meetings'(AFP/File/Sabah Arar)
Paul Bremer heads for Washington: Pentagon In Baghdad earlier a spokesman refused to give any reason for the unexpected departure. Bremer cancelled a meeting scheduled for Tuesday with visiting Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller.
"He will be updating the progress of the CPA, discussing recent attacks," said Megan Grafton, duty press officer for the Pentagon.
"Probably different elements in the investigation of the Black Hawk incident will be discussed, I'm sure," she added.
"My understanding is these meetings are not unexpected," she added.
A senior defense official said privately that Bremer "routinely comes back to Washington to consult with US officials and that's what he is doing."

"Just curious though, how come they never even captured any of the two dozen Saddamm look-a-likes?"
That reminds me of a great joke.
During the last days of the war, before Baghdad was taken, a dozen of Saddam's lookalikes were kept in a bunker deep underground. They were no more aware of whether or not Saddam had survived the first few attacks than anyone else.
Eventually, Uday came in and told them all, "I have good news and bad news. The good news is that Saddam is still alive, and so you all get to keep your high-paying jobs as lookalikes."
They all smiled and sighed in relief. "What's the bad news, one asked?"
"He's lost an arm and a leg. Line up, folks."

Here's a novel thought, suppose that we know have conclusive evidense that Russia, France and or Germany have been aiding and abetting the Baath Party during this entire conflict. Suppose it has something to do with the two M1s that were hit, one with a series of landminds, the other with some hypervelocity kinetic weapon or direct energy weapon.
Could it involve China and N. Korea?
We do live in interesting times.

Both Saddam and Osama will be captured on October 31 or November 1, 2004.

If Bush was motivated by what the dems say .. we would never have gone to Iraq; we would have given over our soverignty to the UN; we would never have had tax cuts; we would have signed the Kyoto treaty .. do you want more.
Bush had an agenda when he came to office. He knew what he wanted to get done. What the dems do or say is not part of Bush's agenda.
Remember .. the current President was witness to how the democrats operated for over 12 years. It began when Reagan was President, and his dad was VP (8 years). He watched and learned. He also saw the dems treachery when his dad was President (4 years); and now for almost 3 years of his own presidency.
The dems have just one plan .. find out what Bush wants and then do WHATEVER IT TAKES (lying, cheating, etc.) to stop it. And .. the dems don't care if the plan is good for America.
Knowing this .. Bush has just forged ahead with HIS OWN PLANS .. and what the dems say .. for it or against it .. has not played a part.
And .. if you were truly a "Bush fan" you would have known this information already.

Hmmm. Wonder if they've captured Saddam? That would cause mass depression among the DUmmies.
