Royal Scandal: A prince haunted

According to the Peat report, Sir Stephen Lamport, Prince Charles's deputy private secretary, wrote to Ms Shackleton [Prince Charles's main lawyer] asking if an agreement could be reached with Mr Smith in order to "avoid an investigation". Ms Shackleton, says the Peat report, believed Mr Smith had St James's Palace "over a barrel". Mr Smith eventually agreed to take a £38,000 payoff ­ almost three times the sum he would have received if he had won a claim for unfair dismissal.

Ms Shackleton was so discomforted by her experience, the report said, that she told Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Princess Diana's sister: "I was asked to make it go away. It was one of the lowest points in my professional career." Mr Smith had also gone to the police over his rape allegations. But he decided not to continue with the complaint after the settlement with the Palace.

Is The Prince gay? I honestly don’t have a glue. But I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he were.

What's the point of the British monarchy these days? They have no power. What do they really do for England other than provide fodder for the SUN and People mag? I mean really, what is there purpose? Just possession of titles, crowns, and money?

The Queen is the Head of State.

In parliamentary democracies, the executive branch is divided between the Head of State and the Head of Government.

Usually, the Head of State is either a monarch or a president.

The Head of Government is the prime minister.

I knew about that rape accusation. I have been searching the web for information and found some websites who are publishing the entire thing.
They should not be able to sweep this under the royal rug if even half of it is true. So sad that they discredit the victim, sounds like our democrats, actually, and I guess you could say they do have the same world view and goals.

Sooooo this is what all the bruhaha is all about. Oh puhleez. If it weren't so sordid and pathetic it might be of interest. Nice of Diana..the ex-wife...videotaping this tripe to get back at her ex and his family. Yeah, there is a gal who was all sweetness and light. The Queen of Hearts...as I have said before...I think she was vain, manipulative and self-absorbed. But other than that I sure she was a very nice person.

The British just love their royal scandals. For all the ink being spilled on this, I recall Charles' first scandal and how it went on for weeks in the press. It seems about 1963 that Charles was 6 months shy of the legal drinking age. Yet he drank a glass of sherry, Zounds!.

Doesn't seem like a BFD to me, but it went on for weeks and weeks.

The Brits ought to put the Royal Family in a Darlingtom semi-detached and let them prove themselves in a TV serial ... Philip and the Queen are doing all right . She is known as Queen to all the neighbors where she runs a small grocery shop . Every customer receives the same gracious smile and quick inquiry as to the family . She is good at remembering things like that and keeping a line moving at the same time . She learned that shaking millions of hands . Philip sells ecology equipment to factories ..Good at his work and believes in it ...strong middle class message there . Charles is a successful pop singer . They all get knighted in the end one way or another and the wind-up is back in Buckingham Palace stroner than ever ...

It seems that the most damnming allegations involve the possible coverup of two rapes, supposedly committed by Fawcett, Charles's alleged lover.

If Prince Charles tries to offer Fawcett as a sacrificial lamb, he might be for a surprise if Fawcett has some dirt on Prince Charles.

This scandal will probably last for a few months, since the prior restraint of the English-language media has created an unsatiable feeding frezy, extending the natural life of a royal scandal.
