Scotty Baesler will probably run on the Democratic side, or in an interesting turn of events, since that district covers Woodford county also, in attempt to salvage a political spot out of defeat for Governor, I would not be too shocked if Ben Chandler does run for Ernie's congressional seat. Owen will be the front runner next year for the Rats in the senate race against Jim Bunning. Neither probably would win though. Not sure about the GOP in that district, but if history serves correctly, it will most likely be one of the State Representatives or State Senators from that area--that was how Fletcher got elected--when he first beat State Senator Ernesto Scorsone in open election in 1998. Possibilities include state rep. Katie Stine (R-Lexington).. The wheels turn slowly, but what is coming is a major shift in Kentucky from Democrats and liberals to Republicans, that has been in the making since Snyder ran for Congress in 64 (in the seat now held by Anne Northrup)..
