I've read that if Jindal wins, Breaux might stay in. If he loses, Breaux might just quit now and let the gov replace him. I don't know LA law...would a replacement for Breaux only be there until the 2004 election?
Either way, I think Breaux will decide to retire.

Actually it's a constitutional issue. An appointed Senator can only serve until the expiration of the uncompleted term.

what you've read is probably true. I can't see Breaux retiring and letting a R governor pick his replacement. That would weaken his lobbying ability to Democrats.

We really need to organize a massive (and FRIENDLY) FReep of Zell Miller. If we can get him to switch parties, it would devastate the left. He has already endorsed our guys...Why not switch? Give the left a taste of their Jumpin Jim Jeffords medicine.
