Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Mmmmm. Maria Esperanza said over a decade ago "Russia may act in a surprise way when you least expect it".

She also said in talking about what she saw: It may come like an earthquake, something like this, very hard things.I see like caves inside the earth."

She's a very very old woman and she felt horribly burdened by what she saw, much of which she wouldn't describe but just asked for prayer.

I strongly agree with you.

But, then, I've long expected the Ruskies to do such things.

. . . i.e. maintain a nuke in their DC embassy.

Here are a couple sites I've found showing a few claims about smallpox are a bit overblown.

I'm not sure I'd take the word of a naturopath - he has a considerable axe to grind far beyond the issue of smallpox (like taking on the entire medical/pharmaceutical/biological establishment).

Smallpox could still be quite messy ... however there are indeed some countermeasures if you find out about the outbreak in time (including various forms of vaccination). But it's only one of a number of biologicals that might be used - it just makes a good example. It might well not be the most destructive - plus there have been weaponized forms of smallpox that are far deadlier than the natural kind. Because of the characteristics of biological systems (!) you can swipe a sample of it while still leaving the original culture intact - unlike bombs, where you have a definite hole in your inventory if someone steals one.

But smallpox is only the beginning. What if you've managed to find a culture of Spanish flu (thought to have died out after the epidemic in the early 20th century)? Or Ebola or any number of others - perhaps even simultaneously? And unlike a nuclear bomb, the supplies (though not the cultures obviously) can be obtained at any Wal-Mart.

It's possible to be too alarmist but I wouldn't discount the potential danger either. Short of massive numbers of bombs it's probably the easiest way to get a large body count.

A wise MD pastor friend at my church 30 years ago taught such preparedness. They had suitcases for that level of eventuality as well as backpacks packed and ready.

Both husband and wife are now in Glory having never used them. But I still think it's a wise thing--and all the more so with each passing day.

Millionaire neighbor has long ago created a wildlife reserve on which he's built huge lakes next to the San Juan river--on the shores of which he feeds probably a thousand or 3 Canadian geese year around. Hunters on land adjacent are pounding away frequently and their shot sometimes ends up pinging on our metal roof.

Beautiful birds, though.

Not so for all their . . . uhhhh . . . . leavings.

Honestly, if it were me, and the trip were already planned and paid for, I'd say my prayers, take a deep breath, and go enjoy my trip.

Well said. I took a trip to Europe in Dec. 2001 that was paid for and planned. I was scared before, but did not want to give into the terrorist. The trip was wonderful.

Most Americans were wearing our colors. I was asked by out tour guide if I was afraid to wear them. I told her, "Look I have done nothing wrong. I will never be afraid to be an American." That has become my theme in Europe. I've been to Europe twice more and the Europeans just can't understand why I am not afraid to be an American.

I had a desk clerk in Vienna tell me he holidayed in Egypt and made sure not to wear any clothes with American designer on them so he wouldn't be mistaken for an American. That to me show the difference between a European and an American. European's say just don't hurt me, I am not an American. We are proud to be Americans and not afraid. When you think of WWII and how the Germans allowed their neighbors to be taken and tortured and killed without saying a word, I believe that this is history repeating itself.

RE your trips to Europe: went on a biz trip to Indonesia a couple months back. As most know, Indo is 80 percent Muslim and has had several recent bombings.

Deliberately went to a few spots where there would be no Westerners beyond myself. Had zero problems, in fact quite the opposite, it turned out great. Enjoyed the trip and the Indonesian people greatly, regretted having to leave. And this was during Ramadan.

It proved once more that the world seems a very dangerous and threatening place when plugged-in to TV or the Internet or the newspaper, for that matter. That's because "the news" is by definition the bad, the extraordinary, the wierd, the creepy. But the real world often doesn't map to "the news": it's more normal, more interesting, and far more accomodating than reporters and the media would have us believe.

By the same token, although this thread is interesting (like a good mystery or horror flik), much of it has no basis in reality whatsoever. There's a lot of self-inflicted angst here.

Liz,

Here's a link to a list put together by FEMA. It's pretty inclusive and is a good starting point....

I think they've already messed around with and released some 'new' insects. Read somewhere we had several different species to "emerge" last year. Yuck. I know I saw a couple of weird ones in my garden, last Summer. Insects, that is. :)

If I lived in NYC, I'd do the same thing. As it is, I am trying to consolidate and list things I'd want to grab, just in case.

I've been coming to work in NYC since right after 9/11 and didn't let any of the orange alerts scare me off either. I can't believe I'm actually thinking about staying home Monday and doing a Paul Revere to let family and friends know what could be going down. How do you do that without sounding like a nut job? This stuff really has me spooked. Anyone else here thinking about not going into NYC on Monday, 2/2?

I don't see how you could not be thinking about staying home. I think of all the folks who had work delayed on 9/11, for one reason or another and are alive to tell about it. We had NO warning, then. We do at least, have generalizations now. I do feel some relief that some have discovered these sites and messages. Even if they amount to nothing, it's better to be aware. IMO. They say to 'know your enemy,' and I want to know what they are thinking about doing, even if unable to pull it off.

Ok, never mind:

U.S. Official: No Truth to Rumor Bin Laden Captured

Add Top Stories - Reuters to My Yahoo!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - There is no truth to a rumor in the foreign exchange markets that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) has been captured, a U.S. official said on Thursday.

Reuters Photo

"It's not true," the official said when asked about the rumor. Traders cited the rumor as one reason why the dollar gained ground.

U.S. forces have been hunting for bin Laden since the Sept. 11, 2001, hijacked plane attacks on America that were blamed on al Qaeda.

While other al Qaeda leaders have been captured or killed, bin Laden has remained elusive and is believed to be hiding in the border region of Afghanistan (news - web sites) and Pakistan.

The bin Laden market rumor was also fueled by news that Treasury Secretary John Snow would hold a briefing to announce a joint U.S. action with Saudi Arabia in the financial war on terrorism.
