Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Here's another article about his "insightful speech" (gaggggg). Not sure what to make of him being there now - makes me wonder about those Saudi warnings that we've been hearing about on this thread.

One soldier was killed and another seriously wounded in an attack on an IDF D9 bulldozer, which was deactivating a minefield along the Lebanese border Monday afternoon. Hizbullah fired an anti-tank missile at the bulldozer Monday evening near the northern border, scoring a direct hit on the vehicle.

The Israeli military has identified the soldier killed as Jan Rotchneski, 21, from Herzlya.

The IDF submitted a complaint to the United Nations about the attack, reported Ynet on Monday.

A UNIFIL officer said that he witnessed the missile being fired from Lebanese territory toward the IDF bulldozer. A journalist asked the him whether the bulldozer crossed the border into Lebanon but he sufficed to say: “We are currently in the stage of comprehending the accident’s facts,” wrote Ynet.

Senior security officials met Monday night to decide on a response to a Hizbullah anti-tank missile attack on an IDF bulldozer across the Lebanese border, in which a soldier was killed and another seriously wounded.

The unprovoked attack occurred as the bulldozer was engaged in removing a string of roadside bombs planted by Hizbullah alongside the security fence near Moshav Zarit, in Western Galilee, and discovered two weeks ago.

Some of the devices were safely destroyed shortly afterward, but bad weather in the interim prevented the remainder from being neutralized and it was decided to use a heavily armored D-9 bulldozer for the job.

Hizbullah gunmen, however, were apparently waiting for just such an opportunity and when the bulldozer crossed the fence line to deal with the remaining bombs, an anti-tank missile scored a direct hit on the vehicle, which burst into flames.

The two operators aboard were seriously hurt and one subsequently died of his wounds despite the efforts of paramedics at the scene. The other soldier was evacuated by IAF helicopter to Haifa's Rambam Hospital.

Deputy hospital director Dr. Zvi Ben-Ishai said the soldier was suffering from multiple shrapnel wounds.

"Immediately on admission he was taken to surgery for a series of operations for the wounds he suffered, including complex ones. Afterwards he will be moved to the intensive care unit," Ben-Ishai said.

Hizbullah claimed in a statement on its Manar television station that members of its fighting arm, the Islamic Resistance, had repulsed an incursion into Lebanese territory by the Zionist enemy.

"The Islamic Resistance challenged a land violation by the Zionist occupation forces when one of its tractors crossed the border towards Lebanese land. The tractor got a direct hit," the Hizbullah statement said.

A senior Hizbullah official was later quoted in reports from Lebanon as saying that Hizbullah would respond severely if Israel tried to retaliate.

Nevertheless, OC Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Benny Gantz said that the IDF was weighing its response and intimated that those on the other side of the border had cause for concern.

Furthermore, Israel charged that the bulldozer had not entered Lebanese territory, because the security fence in that area is slightly south of the UN-delineated "Blue Line" to which the IDF withdrew when it pulled out of Lebanon in May 2000.

Security sources said it was not a question of whether Israel would respond to this latest atrocity and violation of the international border, but how and in what strength.

There were reports of differences of opinion among senior defense and security officials over a severe and forceful response because of the perceived weakness of Syria, the controlling power in Lebanon, or a more restrained one that would not lead to an escalation.

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz was quoted as saying that it was a very serious incident and he cancelled a Knesset visit to hold top-level discussions with security officials.

Gantz, in a briefing with reporters in the North, said it was important to note that the incident had taken place inside Israeli territory and that the IDF had received the prior approval of UN forces for neutralizing the explosive devices.

He noted that Hizbullah is consistently planting bombs along the border to hit IDF troops and that on Monday it took advantage of efforts being made to remove and destroy the devices.

"This is a very serious incident committed by a terrorist organization whose activities are permitted under the auspices of Lebanon and Syria... We are weighing an appropriate response," said Gantz.

He described the situation along the Lebanese border as "quiet, but tense."

Gantz said the IDF had relayed to the UN via its international peacekeeping force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, the seriousness with which it views the unprovoked Hizbullah attack.

He added that all necessary safety and security precautions were being taken by IDF forces deployed along the border.

In November another string of roadside bombs was discovered near the same area, opposite Moshav Zarit. On that occasion they were safely destroyed. Last October an IDF soldier was shot and killed near Metulla.

The latest Hizbullah attack comes at a time when Syria has been making what have been described as serious overtures to Israel to resume peace talks. Senior government officials, including Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, have called on Syria to first stop supporting Hizbullah and allowing it to receive arms shipments from its patron, Iran, and cease providing a safe haven for other terrorist organizations.

The anti-tank missile attack heightened tension along the border after Hizbullah fired anti-aircraft shells over southern Lebanon on Monday. There were no reports of shrapnel falling on the Israeli side of the border.

The organization said the firing was in response to violations by IAF warplanes of Lebanese airspace. Reports from Lebanon said IAF jets flew over several parts of the country, breaking the sound barrier and causing windows to rattle in the homes of residents.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that You have drawn so many to work with those who would rid the world of terrorism. We cannot begin to fathom the magnitude of the terrorism network, but we thank You, O God, for the wisdom of those in authority ... and we thank You, O God, for the willingness of others to carry out assignments, at great risk, so that our beloved country would be free from death and destruction.

I pray, Merciful Father, that You would place a hedge around each one who is charged with our national security ... may they be alert and filled with all wisdom and discernment ... grant them swift communication with others, both here and abroad, that any plan by the enemy would be thwarted. Protect those who need to remain anonymous in their work, but grant success that those who plan evil would be identified and set aside. Keep us resolute in the discharge of justice against our enemies, that we not be sidetracked by emotional displays designed to weaken our work.

Draw other nations to this task, O Lord, for the enemy is insidious and able to hide and regroup and strike again. Open the eyes of the world to know that one is not safe until all are safe, such is the evil upon us. Make it plain that we are seeing a spiritual battle ... the forces of evil attempting to overtake the forces of good ... an ageless, ongoing battle ... may we not be overcome by evil, but may we overcome evil with good. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

Piper, I just finished reviewing the thread up to now.

All I can offer is: My analogy of following every ripple in the river holds firm. We're working with a puzzle with 10,000 pieces, and every eyeball helps - a little.

Several alert notices are still in place, even though we went back to Yellow from Orange. Some key infrastructure assets are still under Orange, as well.

Does everybody understand what I say, when I refer to "threat streams"? It's kind of like following a post, with all the replies to that post. Every bit of data has an origin, and all that's needed is to trace the stream back to the place of origin. And there are numerous threat streams out there:

WMD/Iraq/al-Qaeda; AQ cells/Yemen/Somalia; Jihadi transit across Syria; and more.

What most people are tracking is the CONUS threat, and it's admirable how many are using deductive reasoning. Keep GOING!

It has begun!

Mossad, if you don't mind, educate me here. Are you saying "it has begun" because the fighting has pretty much been between Palestine and Israel and now Lebanon and decided to jump in? Hasn't Lebanon, Beirut in particular, long been a hot bed of terrorist activity? I defer to your greater insight into the goings on in that part of the world. Thanks.

I found this post at "ithappening" to be rather interesting. Even these people are worried about China:

"not just the vatican but regarding a reply about the preperation after america falls its true, we know that america is not really the hard rock that will stand, we have been told by the prophit that judgment day will never come till we fight people he described that look exactly like the chinees !!!! and guess whos becoming the leading economic country just after the US !! china!!
we still have a loong road....may god help us spread the messege of peace and the book of god all over the world.

so dont think that america is a rock...its just a small stone on the road.

Okay, I've had a really bad, confrontational day and I hate confrontation. Maybe I'm being really mean and nasty here, but, IF there is a coup in S.A. and the royals are caught off guard and don't escape, and IF the slime-master (Clinton) is stuck with them; well, there is a silver lining in there after all.
I'll go back to lurking now and try to behave.
