If you love the language in the series, I highly recommend the recorded books audio version narrated by Patrick Tull. I'd read the whole series, but listening to Tull's performance took the experience to another level. If you love the books, take a listen. Our local library had them, otherwise they can be expensive to rent. But Tull gives one of the most extraordinary readings you will ever hear.

Thanks for the recommendation!! It so happens I was considering buying the audio books for my FIL whose eyesight is poor. He is a Korean War vet (Marine) and am hoping he will enjoy the books. I think *I* could benefit from an audio book too, as sometimes my eyes just glide right over the technical jargon. Your recommendation will help me out immensely!

Second that! The audio version is great. I actually look forward to driving around town now so I can hear another installment. I haven't had so much fun since my mother read the Hornblower books aloud to me (lo, these many years ago).
