ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST -- A man was arrested Tuesday after deputies caught him setting a fire in a steep, remote canyon filled with dry brush and large trees in the Angeles National Forest, according to sheriff detectives.
Hikers in a remote trail about a half-mile north of the Eaton Canyon Bridge in Altadena saw a man making a fire there and alerted authorities, sheriff's Detective Ed Nordskog said.
Los Angeles County Parks officials and deputies arrived about 10 a.m. as the man was standing next to a fire about four feet in diameter. He warned the deputies to stay away and not extinguish the blaze, Nordskog said.
The man, identified as Dikran Armouchian, 23, of Pasadena,

In post #79, you wrote:
I think most Californians would agree that for now, we'd like to recover and not be bombarded with theories that are unsubstantiated Then, in post #88, you write: Wait until the predictable mudslides that follow the fires start during the next rainy season. Wonder how they will pin that on the muslim extremists?
If you would like to recover and not be bombarded with unsubstantiated theories, why are you bombarding us with unsubstantiated theories about how we'll want to pin stuff on folks? I thought you were busy recovering.

Allow me to point at this nice little quote above and say, for the record, that this is the most offensive thing that I have read to date on FreeRepublic.
The person who you said this to has been posting common sense - something which, perhaps, you seem to have forgotten to put under that tinfoil hat of yours.
I am a native Southern California resident. These fires are devastating to life and property all throughout the region. Smoke is pouring down upon us; ashes are falling from the sky, fires are still burning out of control in many areas... and you want to accuse someone who is pointing out simple truthful possibilities as to what /could/, in all honesty, be the cause of the fire?
You are truly sick, and I hope in my heart of hearts that someday, you realize just how cruel you are being to those of us who live in Southern California and who are at risk from the danger of these wildfires every single day right now.
Instead of giving all of these wild, hair-brained conspiracy theories, how about you take off your tinfoil hat long enough to consider that not everything going on in America right now is linked to terrorism? There's thousands of Armenians in California. Heck, there's thousands of Armenians in Pasadena and Glendale, the two cities where the man who was arrested was linked to. The report said that his family had been looking for him for a couple of days. There are many people who have mental problems; it is entirely possible that the arsonist in question is one of these people.
Assuming instantly that he's a terrorist does no good unless you have concrete evidence which says he is a terrorist. Do you? If not, please stuff those theories back under your hat and keep them to yourself, right along with your rude comments to people who are already overly stressed over fire conditions. Thank you.

Thank you for posting this. I'm very glad to hear that they caught at least one of the firebugs that's out there, and I hope he gets some serious help while in prison. Sounds like he needs it.

I am doubtful he is a Christian. He is either a convert or a Muslim by birth
You know absolutely zero about this person other than they don't have what you would consider a Christian name.
"Dikran" as a given name could be anything from Turkish to Bulgarian. The surname "Armouchian" may be Armenian, and it may not.
To make a judgement based on name alone is incredibly ignorant.
Here are some other names (they are all..gasp!..of Arab descent):
Paula Abdul
Doug Flutie
Yasmine Bleeth
Frank Zappa
Tiffany
and what about these Armenians:
Andre Agassi
Cher
Eric Bogosian
Gary Kasparov
but you'd probably lump them all into the 'Armenians are probably evil' based on this Armenian: Dr. Kevorkian.

Dikran Armouchian, 23, of Pasadena Yeah, he's of Pasadena.
But where's he from?
To: stands2reason
Yeah I hear ya about SOTD. I used to listen to them until I started thinking about the lyrics they sing.
To: OXENinFLA
Funny - I have some thirty-something-year-old Armenian friends in that area who were BORN in Pasadena, and others who were born in Glendale.
Just because he has a different ethnic background doesn't mean he's an immigrant.

Just because he has a different ethnic background doesn't mean he's an immigrant. You're right it doesn't, but I'm sure you are as courious as I am to find out if he is(an illegal) or not.
To: OXENinFLA
Actually, you know what, I'm not curious to find out whether he's an illegal or not. Wanna know why? Even if you don't, I'll tell you.
While Hispanics jump the border daily, I have read very few reports of Armenians illegally sneaking into the country.
Not only that, but the terrorists who were involved with 9/11 were here /legally/, with visas and the works.
I don't like illegal immigrants, lemme get that straight... but I also am rational enough to realize that the vast majority of illegal immigrants are not terrorists. In the case of this individual, I don't rightly give a damn if he's legal or illegal. In fact, it's probable that he's here legally.
What I /do/ care about is the fact that he was caught and detained, and that the fire he was starting in Eaton Canyon (which I have spent many pleasant hours hiking in) was put out.

Does he look like the police sketch which was released today? I'd like to know, too. Also, was he driving the gray van?

A grey van matching the description of the one used in the arson incident in San Bernardino was found abandoned in the high desert yesterday. Its front windshield was smashed out.
Whether that was the actual van or not, I don't know, nor do I have specifics of where it was found exactly, only that it was found in the high desert.

Thanks for the ping, bones......I hope all the arsonists get caught and spend the rest of their lives in jail. My other hope is that they're put to death by flames.

Camp Pendleton fire was accidentally started by our militaryInexcusable given the fact this is fire season. Has Camp Pendleton issued an explantation for their stupid behavior, or an apology (as if that would be enough)? Is the military assisting the firefighters? Will they pay for this little "oops"?

Not disputing the possibility it's terrorism in the Middle Easten sense, but he's probably Armenian, which is about at un-Muslim as you can be. In fact, it was the Muslim Ottomans who committed the genocide against the Armenians which would become Hitler's blueprint against the Jews.
The Armenians have basically been getting their butts kicked by invading armies, Mother Nature, and other acts of God throughout known history.
Oh, and, yes, there's was the earliest known "Catholic" church.
My guess is he's an ELF.
To: Ladypixel
There is a very large Armenian population in Southern and Central California, and (surprise, everyone!) they've been there since the turn of the century.
I think we're all drawing way too many conclusions before the facts are known. It's not impossible to believe that an Armenian Christian could become a radical Muslim. Unlikely, but possible.
If it's a copycat attack, then he could be purely mentally unstable, selfish, or plain evil on his own accord.
We may never know...
To: MEG33
And we have documents from the Young Turk government in Constantinople ordering the genocide.
