How far are you from Hesperia? KFI reporter is in a chopper and they cannot believe how thick the smoke is in the High Desert.

I have been following the threads. I am in Vegas on the edge of town high up. At 6:30 AM there was a thin haze. About 8:00 you could smell the fire and barely see the strip. Thirty minutes later you could not see the strip. I just left the job and the entire valley is filled with thick smoke. Visibility might be two miles. Cars are driving with lights on. Some people were complaining about their chest tightning. I cant imagine how bad it is in So.Cal. I just pray they get rain and get the fires out.

Jay Lawrence reporting for KFI. Winds are blowing the fire into Arrowhead, Hesperia, and into Big Bear. Driving up through Running Springs through Live Oak road -- no homes touched by the fire. There is still fire down below Running Springs. The fire is at the mercy of the winds right now. Were doing some backfiring to stop it at Hwy 18 but that didn't work -- fire has jumped Hwy 18 and is headed to Arrowhead, Big Bear and parts in between.

"Why are the news media only concentrating on Stevenson Ranch when the SB mountains and Julian are burning?!??!?!"

Because that's where most of the cameras are. Same reason as why 2 killed in Gaza gets way bigger press than 20,000 killed in Sudan.

fire has jumped 78, ff gone to try and protect wynola, trying to keep it from jumping the hwy (again) setting back fires earlier on there. not sure what the camera angle is on Fox news 6 showing the downtown, but smoke is blowing horizontally from right to left of the screen. Pete breaking in interview with hire hasn't gone over ridge yet, sounded like they're preparing to foam the whole are soon. fire seemed to flare up, chopper has been really helped. Working with folsum prison and other areas to try and stop it, and keep escape route open. wink directionis actually helping them right now, I guess blowing the fire away from the downtown area.

In response to requests from CA locals, I'm not on a scanner because I'm out of state, and stuck with MSNBC on the net. Any updated scanner info is appreciated.

WOW! That's unbelieveable that it has blown all the way into Vegas -- that is a long way -- been on that road through the Cajon Pass on I-15 and into Vegas through the High Desert.

it's quite a ways -- 40 or 50 miles at least. Victorville, Adelanto, same. Barstow is a 90 minute drive or so.

reporting 10,000 people working the Cedar fire (not all ff) cedar fire, 250+ thousand acres, Julian 100 engines, 10 strike teams. saying some homes on hill may have to be sacraficed if they have to set back fires. Lot of trees, concerned that if they set back fires, may have wind blow it around more than is acceptable, may end up hurting the town. Putting a lot of their hopes on air support.
