I've heard something to that effect before, either. Big Bear Lake's a pretty good sized lake, though. I dunno... I still think the guys who're up there are nuts. If the FF's are as worried about it as they currently are, that should be an indicator to get the heck out.

scanner:
g: command post, hwy 18 is blocked....we can't get to our station.

base: what's blocking it?

g: static (answer)

the word we got was that they would let us through unless it was a hazardous situation for us. If they're fighting something close, stand by and see if you can get by in a reasonable amount of time.

Maybe FF is concerned the pyros are lying in wait to start new fires...

12:32AM - LIVE DONKEY HAS BEEN HIT AND LAYING IN TRAFFIC

They need to get rid of them wild burros like they did in Big BEar. Them dern things like to stand in the road and when you around those windy roads up there at night it's high adventure. I know several people who have balled up a car over a dang burro

Those monitoring the Pine Hills/Cuyamaca area might be interested in this automated weather station:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/TotalForecast/miscObs/raws/CA/PINE.HILLS.html

It is located at the Pine Hills Fire Station, located in a low meadow at the intersection of Engineers Road and Eagle Peak Road (or is it Boulder Creek Rd? I forget).

As of 12:14 am, 10/29. it is still in operation. The temperature is oddly warm though.

I don't know the location of the Julian weather station, but here is the URL:

This is driving the geezer crazy, my being on here this late. Sheesh.

Sleep well everyone. My prayers for ALL affected. My utmost thanks to the firefighters.

Bah. Bad stations; they should run through the night, with all of the activity the nights have had over the last few days...

Well, someone did start up fires near Silverwood Lake today, so there's pyros up there somewhere... or were, anyhow.

G'nite! Sleep well!

(And, for the record, my other half's been grumping at me about sitting around and typing all night these last few days, too. But then again, he's also glued to fire coverage on TV...)
