A wildfire that erupted in the Colorado foothills near Jamestown earlier today has grown to an estimated 60 acres. The community of Jamestown is evacuating at this hour.
The Red Cross evacuation center is located at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont. Winds of 50 miles per hour or more are pushing the flames toward Jamestown at times, and away from the town at other times. The fire is located about ten miles northwest of Boulder. Smoke is also hanging over Longmont, some 20 miles from Jamestown.
About 65 firefighters and commanders from ten agencies are at the scene and more are on the way. Agencies in the area are low on firefighters and equipment because many have been sent to California to help firefighters there.

Most of the homes are on the south shore of Big Bear Lake... homes start popping up on that shore as soon as you cross the dam.
You go thru a small area called Boulder Bay, traveling east along the south shore you go into the city of Big Bear Lake.. followed by Moonridge and Sugarloaf... anothe major settlement is Big Bear City located along the east shore of the lake... Fawnskin is on the north side of the lake, directly across from Boulder Bay.

They haven't gotten far enough to speculate on the cause. The Douglas County fire - named Cherokee, I think - is only a few miles to the south of me. Homes are in its eventual path and I heard on the radio about 15 minutes ago that evacuations were starting. Right now a park with a herd of buffalo and a golf course are the closest to the fire.

God I hope not. I live in Fountain Hills, AZ and we are a fire just waiting to happen. Lakes are even at their lowest levels. Thurs and Fri they think we'll be under Red Flag warning. I hate to even mention it. We had the firetrucks driving through the neighborhoods a few weeks ago looking for overgrown areas.

Home engulfed. Feed didn't say exactly where. They were
showing Stevenson Ranch area a bit earlier.
Reporter in copter just said they refueled at the Apple
Valley airport earlier and the wind was heavy.

I haven't heard any thing more on it. (Mods won't keep these live Breaking News threads active. Dang it!)

I've been out for a bit but was taping the cbs feed to video;
