On the bright side, it kills the damm beetles. I've been thinking the same thing. Torching the beetles is one of the (very) few good things coming out of this. When the forests grow back they'll probably be a lot healthier.
Too bad there wasn't a less destructive way to accomplish the same thing.

I've got an old college roommate whose family lived in Fawnskin. Any word on that berg? Ex-Green Beret named Randy, great guy.
Unfortunately I've lost track of him over the years.

"Where will California get the money to pay for the cost of fighting these fires and to rebuild? " Since Canada is sending in their people and planes, I would think the responsibility should fall to them. Maybe France and Germany will commit.

Too bad there wasn't a less destructive way to accomplish the same thing. There was. But as DiFi said TODAY we don't want the eeeeeeevil timber companies to profit.

Yes, by killing a bunch of the beetles and removing their food source. Good for a few years anyway. *sigh*

Is there any water in the creek by forest falls?
To: Fitzcarraldo
If there is water in the creek, I would be shocked. We have been bone dry since May out here.

I hope they stop posting and start leaving. I heard on KFI that residents are being asked to evacuate.

I really liked Julian. It reminded me of a quaint New England small town (I'm from Connecticut originally). I was surprised to learn that apple orchards are a big deal there.
There was one guy who gave my wife and me a ride back to the PCT trailhead along the Sunrise Highway. Strange, but affable fellow. He claimed he was descended from British Royalty and was kidnapped from Britain as a baby. I got the sense that he was a local eccentric (he seemed to hang out in front of the Chamber of Commerce).
Anybody know the population of Julian?

They didn't charge her? Wow, I had no idea. She was ID'd IMMEDIATELY, IIRC, but this story says little to nothing about the guy.Must be named "Mohammad"...
It isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination these days in the post-9/11 era. I was also wondering if it could be an illegal guarding one of those huge pot fields I saw on Discovery Channel.

Here is the quickest map I could find, will try for a better one. Lake Arrowhead is between where you see the 18's. It's probably about 20 miles.
