I would think there is more to the story than Handel is giving us, given what we heard last night and in the TIMES this a.m. (Handel can be entertaining but I don't consider him the most reliable source on the radio, he seems to me to lean left more often than not...) I'll be most interested to hear from Hunter or Dreier today.

Is there a growing danger to the Lake Henshaw area? I've heard nothing from that area. It's north of the start of the fire, and so far the fire's been going either south-west or (recently) due east.
Sheriff's just ordered immediate evacuation of the communities of Pine Hills and Julian, both of which are due east. From what I remember about the fuel situation at Henshaw, plus the info available so far, I'd guess it's fairly safe.
As you know, though, these things are unpredictable.

I had a problem with that all day yesterday -- couldn't pull myself away from here. I only got away because I finally got so tired I passed out on the couch.

According to what I heard the head of CDF wasn't sure he wanted to make that call to General Myers to get assistance on Sunday afternoon. I do believe we are getting RAT spin here right now.

Roger is doing Rush's show now. I'll send him an e-mail and a copy of it to Jimmy Valentine, his producer.
If I able, I'll call Rog this afternoon and I wish you would also. Roger loves SEALS --- you'd get thru right away!

No, I don't consider Handel conservative. He is a lawyer whose viewpoints can be all over the map but I think he is more liberal than not. So I don't consider his version definitive, by any means...

The editors at Fox are idiots!!!This we know...watching our local Fox 11. No banner today...showing fair coverage. Their arial shoots are pretty dang cool. Ooooooo hearing a bomber going over heading west....

It just seems like a hell of a waste, 100 Seahawks sitting idle ten minutes from the fires.
Let me repeat: the Seahawk INSTRUCTOR PILOT who is my neighbor says they CAN and WOULD fly these fire suppression missions, and he can't understand why they have NOT been ordered to do so.

It was relatively still, but more from the east to the west. Now it's consistently from the opposite direction (although still slight). Keeping in mind I'm 30-40 miles from the fire loc.

If I could reach them, I'd advise my relatives to leave and take their animals to Borrego Springs.

Same here! I got the feeling he leans left. We know what we heard last night and his story is not even close to being the same thing. Noticed he didn't mention Cong Hunter or the fact he gave the head of CDF the number of General Myers -- that little detail somehow escaped him. Instead he went to the RATs for clarification.

Where will California get the money to pay for the cost of fighting these fires and to rebuild?
Just wondering.
