Tell me you DONT keep a log book of times that you were ignored that reaches back a year. Please tell me.ROFLMBO! Okay, I admit it. I have a list in my head of FReepers I've put on "ignore." I'm considering recording it on paper AND splitting it into "ignore on this issue" and "ignore forever!" YIKES!

John and Ken talking about why no one bothered to send "Roach Coaches" (rolling taquerias) or pizza trucks out to these fire fighters every few hours. It is INSANNE that we treat these heroes this way. These are the things we GLADLY pay taxes for. (Not that we should not also make their jobs easier by allowing frequent brush-clearing and tree-chopping to PREVENT them having to work like this. It's not about using PUBLIC funds for the clearing, it's about allowing anyone to clear public lands to the point of fire safety.)

MSNBC feed looks like a loop. Now just color bars. Could be interference from that new large solar storm arriving a few hours early.
What I saw from the tape was informative, though. You could see the dead pines due to the bark beetles, a situation I am familar with out here in NM. Our subdivision developer made a decision about 12 months ago to fight them in the common area with pesticides applied to the tree bark in fall and spring. Has worked fine and experts say only need to do it in spring in future. Had a sprayer charge $2 per tree on the homesites which was worth it, given I have mature trees maybe up to 100 years old. A couple of folks didn't spray and have high tree mortality. Ours is a green subdivision in a sea of brown trees.

Caller on KOGO - lives in Guatay near the Ace Hardware. No electricity, no help, no planes over mts. Looks like they are going to start setting backfires. Fire is very close. Says he is not leaving. Oh, no, guy has brain cancer and says it doesn't matter to me. Says they could have done something about this fire. 15 fire trucks pulled in 30 minutes ago. Fire moving to Julian - 22 miles away. Fire on East side of 79 North of 8. Coming towards Guatay - he is looking north and west.
What a call. says FF's are doing a great job, and he will leave if he has to.

I was apalled to see the damage to Crest. I have a lot of friends that live in Apline.
I grew up in North Clairemont (Madison '80). My Mother-in-law is still there (Baxter Drive). A lot of relatives in North Clairemont. My parents are out in Borrego.
This has been a very hard week. I feel like I should be doing something, not just stuck here in my cube, reading the occaisional nutter post and praying for my loved ones still fortunate enough to live in my hometown.
However, my week has been a trip to the beach compared to the thousands that have lost loved ones, homes, and sentimental possessions. Not to mention the heroes out fighting this thing.

"Uh oh, we're in trouble..."

At the risk of incurring the rath of the thread, I'll take up the subject, but only to a limited extent.
I'm a lifelong Calif native, and as long as I can remember, a significant number (50%?) of these fires are started by whackjob arsonists.
In fact, I believe the suspects behind the big Malibu fire back in '93 were two guys trying to get on the fire dept and wanted to look like heroes by helping put out the fire.
While I don't think (at the moment at least) that these fires are anything other than just standard Oct Santa Ana fires, even the dumbest terrorist can clearly see the effect they have on people, nature and the economy.
For a $10 investment in road flares, two guys can take a nice pleasure drive through the mountains the next time we have some Santa Anas - one guy at the wheel and the other lighting and throwing flares out the window.
Don't think that state and Fed officials don't realize this; if not this time, who knows next time?

Well, it's west of Genesee Ave., east of Mnt Acadia Blvd., south of 274, and north-east of Tecolote Canyon Golf Course. That's as much as I can tell you from looking at a map. I've only been there once.

can you repost the link for the live feed?
Thanks. MSNBC keeps cutting it off, and going to other stuff.
