Evacuation updates

1:54 p.m.

The Sheriff's Department is ordering evacuation for Guatay and Pine Valley as the Cedar Fire advances on Julian. Evacuations had previously been ordered for Pine Hills, Julian and Wynola.

Evacuees are advised to take Farmer Road north to Wynola Road, then go east on Wynola Road to State Route 78 and to continue eastward to Borrego Springs.

Residents of Palomar Mountain are being asked to prepare to evacuate.

"We apologize for the confusion over Palomar, as the situation is fluid and we had conflicting information," the Sheriff's Department notes in a release.

Road closure update

1:28 p.m.

State Route 67 is being reopened between Slaughterhouse Canyon Road and Willow Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. SR67 remains closed from Slaughterhouse Canyon north to Mount Woodson Road Parts of Sunrise Highway have been closed.

People evacuating from the Julian area are being directed to take State Route 78 east to Borrego Springs.

I hear you. Nobody wants to discuss the big picture before, during or after. It is preferred to just let the government/media tell us that it was some nutty hiker and then the counselors will hug us.

If there is reason to think there aren't nutty hikers involved, I think people will be more than interested to discuss it in a friendly fashion...later. Right now we're worried about friends, family and locations that are special to us.

conf started..about the suspect(s) in old fire

They are pulling firefighters out in San Diego. Damn we need reinforcements. These heroes have been fighting for 72 hours straight, with no reinforcements, and their Monday lunches were delivered to them this afternoon. They can't go any more, 72 hours up, no food, and they are a danger to themselves.

Rich Hawkins Fire service chief says more homes will likely burn because of his decision but he can't push them any harder. They need 8-12 hours sleep to work off the 72 they put in.
