I just learned a friend's mother leaves near Simi & Porter Ranch. How are things looking there? (I followed the situation closely yesterday, but I'm out of it today.)

My daughter just called from the 5 freeway passing the Encinitas Blvd exit. Fire is in brush/hilly area west of freeway, there are houses a little further away that may be in danger. Plenty of smoke in the area, she saw flames in the trees. Several police/chp cars heading there, one small fire truck, that's as much as she saw. Also saw several people out on their porches watering down area. She said it was much bigger than she expected to see, based on the radio report of starting from muffler dragging.

Do you (or any one else) know if there is another live internet feed other than the one put out by MSNBC?

>> I can rebuild my home. I would not send my family away while I risk DYING and leaving them forever so I could try to save my home with a garden hose...

That is your right. It is also your right to wait for the police to arrive while you are being mugged, robbed, or assaulted. Others, like myself, believe it is their reponsibility to protect themselves and their property. It is also their right.

On the contrary, the powers that be in Lake Arrowhead have been VERY pro active in forcing homeowners to cut down their dead trees (due to the beetle) or they will come in and cut the trees down at the homeowners expense.

They have been very vigilant in that regard.

That community has always been pro active in regard to preventing fires and keeping the pine needles off the roofs of the homes.

for that last few years the posted fire danger ni the san gorgonio wilderness and environs has been extreme.

I can attest to that. Every time I hiked past a Forest Service sign, it always had the fire danger as 'Extreme'. And campfires along the trail (Pacific Crest Trail) were prohibited. I never did find out if this was going on for years, or was just since the drought. At any rate, in 200 miles of hiking, I never made a single campfire. I was almost afraid to, as dry as everything was.
